ProcedureEdit
- An applicant can submit an application for renewal of his/her license to practice as a veterinary technologist (Veterinary Para-Professional). The applicant needs to provide proof of attained prescribed Continuous development (CPD) points.
- CPD’s are activities or programs that provide added value to the capability of Veterinary Para-Professionals through enhancement of knowledge, skills and personal qualities for appropriate execution of the veterinary profession.
- Veterinary technologist Para-Professionals have to acquire a certain amount of CPD’s for their licenses to be renewed/ retained
- Every veterinary technologist (Veterinary Para-Professional) must obtain a minimum of fourteen (14) Credit points per CPD year in order to retain their names in the Kenya Veterinary Board’s (KVB’s) register of Veterinary Para-Professional.
- A minimum of fifty percent (50%) of the Credit Points in any CPD year MUST be accumulated from activities and/or programs that are veterinary - oriented.
- The maximum number of CPD hours that can be accredited for a one (1) day is eight (8) hours.
- A summary of all CPD activities attended is to be submitted on an annual basis to the KVB on Form 27. For purposes of verification, Form 27 should be submitted by 30th November of the year in consideration
Apply In-Person
- To make an application for renewal/retention as Veterinary Technologist (Veterinary Para-Professional)., the applicant has to contact/visit the Kenya Veterinary Board offices to make the application.
- Here you will be required to produce evidence of continuous professional development of the past year.
- This is done using KVB Continuous Professional Record Sheet which can be obtained from the KVB offices or downloaded from their website. Kenya Veterinary Board
- The applicant has to make sure he or she has acquired the required CPD and has all the required documents that are required for this process to be successful. A list of these documents can be found under the "Required Documents" section of this page or at KVB registration requirements page.
- Submit the completed KVC COP Record she –form 27 and required documents.
- Proceed to pay the appropriate fees and submit the payment receipt. The amount of fees to be paid can be found under the "Fees" section of this page or at KVB registration fees page.
- On successful completion of this process, the applicant will receive the written confirmation of retention on the same day

Need for the DocumentEdit
- One cannot practice as a Veterinary Technologist (Veterinary Para-Professional) in Kenya unless have a valid practicing License as a veterinary surgeon issued by the Kenya Veterinary Board.
- Any person who practices veterinary medicine or surgery without having been registered by The Board commits an offence and shall be liable, on conviction, to a fine not exceeding one hundred thousand shillings or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding twelve months, or to both.

Continuous Professional Development [CPD]
- Section 6 (h) of the Act states that the KVB shall ensure the maintenance and improvement of the standards of Practice by registered persons. Part III Rule 17 of the Rules and Regulations states that:-
- Every Veterinary technologist (Veterinary Para-Professional) shall undertake continuous professional development [CPD] activities in the manner provided by the Board.
- Every registered person shall be required to provide proof of participation in CPD activities in the prescribed format (Form 27) for veri¬fication by 30th November of every year

'Note:
- Every Veterinary technologist (Veterinary Para-Professional) shall undertake continuous professional development activities as set out in the VSVP Act Regulations 2013.
- A Veterinary technologist (Veterinary Para-Professional) shall not be retained in the register until he has acquired at least twenty and fourteen credit points respectively in the year under consideration.
- A Veterinary technologist (Veterinary Para-Professional) may apply to the Board for a waiver of some or all the credit points giving reasons for such a request.
- The Board may waive some or all the credit points for a registered person if there are plausible reasons for such a waiver, such as medical reasons, absence from the country and non-veterinary commitments.
- Every Veterinary technologist (Veterinary Para-Professional) shall show evidence of the continuous professional development activities completed by 31st December of every year using Form 27.
- In addition to filling the Form 27, a Veterinary Surgeon shall submit-
- A summary of continuous professional development activities attended, including the nature, scope and duration.
- A summary of credit points acquired.
- The Board may discipline any Veterinary technologist (Veterinary Para-Professional) who shams not acquired the minimum number of credit points by;
- Requiring the person to follow a remedial continuous professional development programmer; or
- Requiring the person to write an examination determined by the Board; or removing the person’s name from the relevant register.
