Licensing of milk handling (processor) premises is an important activity in the regulation of the dairy industry. It facilitates regular inspection of such premises to ensure compliance with milk quality and safety requirements. Kenya Dairy Board Contacts

Apply Online

  1. Contact the nearest Kenya Dairy Board (KDB) office for a preliminary inspection of the premises. This should be undertaken at least two months before the expiry of the current license. Where areas of non-compliance are identified, improvements should be undertaken before proceeding with the renewal application process.
  2. Visit the Kenya Dairy Board Portal to make your application for renewal licensing and pay the requisite license fees.
  3. Proceed and log into your KDB account, on the dashboard locate a current list of license(s) applied through via the KDB portal and select the specific license that you wish to renew.
  4. On the renewal application page accurately fill out all mandatory fields marked with a red asterisk, upload all supporting documentation as listed on the site, and make a payment for the application for inspection
  5. This will be followed by an inspection of the premises and if successful, you are required to pay the requisite license fees. This you can do by logging into your Kenya Dairy Board Licensing Portal dashboard.
  6. Once payment is made the license will be processed within fourteen days and it can be downloaded from your online dashboard.
  7. The license has a validity period of one year and you can start operations immediately.
  8. Pay monthly cess and levy as and where applicable. Other conditions of issuance of the license should be observed (Non-compliance can lead to suspension of permit)
  9. Once approved, the licensee shall download the license from their online account by:

  11. Go to license management then
  12. Go to My License, then view License.
  13. Download the license using the download license link provided.

Refusal to grant or renew licence
The Board may refuse to issue a new licence or may suspend or cancel an existing licence if the Board is satisfied that-

  • The producer’s standards of performance are unsatisfactory;
  • The issue is not, or the suspension or cancellation is in the interest of other producers and of consumers;
  • The conditions of a license have not been fulfilled;
  • The applicant or licensee has failed to remit, within the prescribed period, any cess due by the applicant or licensee to the Board; or
  • The applicant or licensee has not paid dairy farmers for milk delivered to the applicant or licensee.
