Apply In-PersonEdit
- To renew your Aircraft Maintenance Engineers License, one has to first fully complete and submit the prescribed application form - The Aircraft Maintenance Engineer License, Extension, Conversion or Validation certificate Application Form - Form AC: PEL013- Page 14 -16.
- This form can be obtained by visiting the Personnel Licensing (PEL) Offices of the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority’s - KCAA Offices
- After filling the application documents you are required to submit them to the Authority’s Personnel Licensing (PEL) offices or you can forwarded them to the:-

- You are required to submit the renewal application form with all the required documents for evaluation by KCAA for you to get approval to make payments for the prescribed application fees. These documents include:-
- (i). Previous license held
- (ii). Curriculum Vitae
- (iii). Proof of work experience (or the Aircraft Maintenance Engineers Experience Log-Book)
- (iv). Certification by an authorized person of the AMO where the applicant works and the required supporting documents attached
- (v). Two (2) current passport size photographs (full face);
- (vi). Proof of identification documents (Identity card or passport)
- The application shall not be accepted if it is not appropriately filled and certified by the Quality Manager of the AMO where the applicant works and the required supporting documents have been attached. In case the application is rejected, the applicant will be notified in writing.

- (i). Previous license held
- The receiving officers will check for discrepancies or ineligibility in the application documents. If a discrepancy that cannot be immediately corrected exists in any of the documents, the application and all the submitted documents will be returned to the applicant and should not be re-submitted until the discrepancy has been rectified corrected.
- If the receiving officers is satisfied that all the requirements have been met for the issue of a licence and the prescribed application form has been completed and presented in the Personnel Licensing (PEL) Office, the applicant will be advised to pay the prescribed application fees, after which the licence will be issued.
- After the evaluation you are to proceed to pay the prescribed application fees and submit the payment receipt to together with the application documents.
- (i). Test for licence without type rating Ksh. 2,000 to 5000 per category
- (ii). Test for license with type rating Ksh. 2500 to 5000 per category
- (iii). Fees for issue of aircraft maintenance engineer’s license Khs. 3000

- This is followed by a series of tests to demonstrate your Knowledge and skills. You will have to write an essay examination and do a practical assessment test.
- Upon successful completion of the tests you will be issued with the renewed AME license.
- A processing time of 14 days is needed to complete the renewal processing of the Aircraft Maintenance Engineers License application, after which you will be contacted through a phone call to collect your license at the KCAA’s Personnel Licensing offices.
- You will be required to carry your identification documents when collecting your renewed license.

EligibilityEdit
- Must be in possession of a valid / expired Aircraft Maintenance Engineers License.
- The applicant shall demonstrate ability to read, write and communicate in English Language.
- The applicant should demonstrate the minimum level of Aircraft knowledge
- The applicant shall provide acceptable evidence of experience. The experience provided should be arranged in ATA chapter format and should represent cross section of the maintenance tasks relevant to the category/rating applied for. The experience should be verified by a KCAA practical examiner.
- The applicant shall have demonstrated the skill to perform those functions applicable to the privilege to be granted. The skill should be verified by a KCAA practical examiner.
- The applicant shall pay the appropriate fee.

ValidityEdit
- AME licences are valid for Two (2) years from the date of issue or last renewal. Applicants need to apply for licence renewal to KCAA at least Sixty (60) days before expiry.
- The holder must have performed work comparable with that required for the grant of the licence for periods totalling at least six months during the twenty four months preceding the date of the expiry of the licence.

Need for the DocumentEdit
- In order to be granted authorization to issue certificates of release to service after maintenance on a Kenya registered aircraft, a person must hold a valid license issued by the Authority in accordance with the Civil Aviation (Personnel Licensing) Regulations.
- A holder of an aircraft maintenance engineer license (AMEL) may perform or supervise the maintenance, preventive maintenance , or modification of, or after inspection, approve for return to service, any aircraft, airframe, aircraft engine, propeller, appliance, component, or part thereof.

- A person who fails to renew his licence after the expiry period may do so within the next twelve months provided that he proves that he has been continuously engaged in practical work for the entire extended period. An acceptable statement from the applicant and employer, must be submitted to the Authority confirming that, the holder did not exercise the licence privileges during the period the licence had expired.
- When the applicant has exercised the privileges of an expired licence the licence renewal will not be considered until the applicant and the employer have presented acceptable statements explaining the circumstances under which certification was made on an expired licence. All such certifications made when the licence had expired have been reported to the Authority and that they have been recertified by a holder of a valid License.
- A person who does not apply for a renewal within the extended period as provided for above or fails to prove that he has continuously been engaged in practical work during that period will be required to sit for an exam before his licence is renewed.
