Kenya - Obtain a Motor Vehicle Dealer General License

The Authority issues to a dealer in, or manufacturer or repairer of, motor vehicles, upon application in the prescribed form and upon payment of the prescribed fees, such number of dealers general licences as the applicant may require, and with each such licence is issued two identification plates.

From time to time be prescribed, the holder of a dealers general licence should use the licence only in respect of vehicles in his possession; and should not use more than one such vehicle under the authority of one licence at any one time.

Need for the DocumentEdit
A dealers general license is a license issued by Kenya Revenue Authority to a dealer in, or manufacturer or repairer of, motor vehicles.
A dealer is any person who deals by way of business in motor vehicles or trailers.

Dealers General License
The Kenya Revenue Authority wishes to notify all motor vehicle dealers, manufacturers and repairers that pursuant to the Traffic Act Cap 403 Section 23(1) Laws of Kenya, they must obtain a valid Dealers General Licence upon application and payment of the prescribed fees.
The commissioner may issue the number of dealers licenses required and with each license, shall issue two identification plates.
All persons concerned should therefore obtain the required licence with immediate effect. Failure to comply with the notice will lead to enforcement action.

Every dealers general licence shall cease to be valid if the dealer ceases to carry on business in the district for which it is issued.
When a Dealers General Licence expires or is cancelled or otherwise ceases to be valid under the provisions of the Act, the holder of the licence shall deliver to the Registrar the identification plate which were issued to such holder with such licence, unless a renewal licence is issued for the same plates.
Provided that upon the expiry of the licence the holder may retain the identification plates issued with the licence if he applies for and is issued with a new licence in respect of the same identification plates and the new licence would during the period of its validity authorize the use of such identification plates in the same manner as the expired licence.
