Apply In Person

  1. To obtain a Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) Registration Letter, an application shall be submitted to the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) - Rules of Origin Section. KRA Branch Contacts
  2. Applicants are issued with a Rules of origin exporter registration form, obtainable at the KRA office, or downloadable via the KRA website or directly download it using this Rules of origin exporter registration form
  3. Upon obtaining the application form, the applicant should legibly complete the form, attach all relevant supporting documentation as listed under the “Required Documents” section of this page and submit the complete application file to the KRA-Rules of Origin Section for processing and consideration.
  4. If the applicant is not the manufacturer, the applicant is required to provide details of the supplier(s) who will supply the goods for export and attach copies of the supplier/producer’s declarations.
  5. The KRA officer shall then schedule a booking for a consignment verification (inspection). The waiting time until verification of the origin of goods depends on the availability of the officers, and the number of pending applications.
  6. The client (exporter) is advised to follow up with the department to expedite the verification of the origin of their goods.
  7. The time taken to verify/inspect the origin of goods depends on the size of the premises, the complexity of the production process, and the number of products in production.
  8. After a successful consignment inspection, the client is issued with a KRA Registration Letter that shall contain registration details and a registration number unique to the exporter

  • Sector-specific license (original). The license depends on the commodity of export

ValidityEdit

  • The validity of the KRA - Registration Letter shall be mentioned on the document and shall remain valid for that stipulated time unless suspended, cancelled, or evoked by the Authority.
  • The Registration Letter is issued per consignment.

  • The KRA registration letter has a unique registration number issued to exporters that is required when applying for a certificate of origin required when exporting product. such certificate of origin includes;

    • African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) certificate of origin
    • Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) Certificate of Origin
    • East African Community (EAC) Certificate of Origin
    • European Union (EU) certificate of origin
