After registration, all experts should apply for a practicing license which should be renewed annually.

Requirements for renewal of license are payment receipts for the prescribed fees, a copy of the license of the previous year or a copy of the certificate of registration.

Need for the DocumentEdit

Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and Environmental Audit (EA) Experts License is issued by the National Environment Management Authority in order to control the quality of Environmental Impact Assessment /EA reporting by ensuring ethical and professional conduct in Kenya.



Information which might helpEdit

Local and Foreign environmental impact assessment individual and firm of experts wishing to undertake environmental impact assessment activities in Kenya are required to register as Experts with the National Environment Management Authority on payment of the registration fees. The following shall be the criteria of experts qualification;

Associate Experts

An Associate expert must have attained the following qualifications;

  • A bachelors degree in any field
  • Training in Environmental Impact Assessment & Audit from a recognized institution.

NB: A comprehensive Curriculum Vitae must accompany other documents during application for registration.

Lead Expert

A Lead expert must have attained the following qualifications;

  • A Doctorate degree or equivalent in any field plus training in Environmental Impact Assessment & Audit from a recognized institution, with 3 years experience in environmental Impact Assessment related activities.
  • A Doctorate, Masters or Bachelors plus 5 years experience in Environmental Impact Assessment related research consultancy or teaching and at least two relevant publications in referred journals. or
  • A masters degree in any field plus training in Environmental Impact Assessment & Audit from a recognized institution, with 5 years experience in environmental impact assessment related activities. or
  • A Bachelors degree or an equivalent in any field plus training in environmental impact assessment from recognized institution, with 8 years experience in environmental impact assessment related activities.

NB: Comprehensive Curriculum Vitae must accompany other documents during application for registration.

Firm of Experts

A Firm of Experts must meet the following conditions;

  • A Firm profile indicating capacity to undertake Environmental Impact Assessment & Audit.
  • At least two Registered and Practicing EIA/EA Experts. One of the Experts must be a Lead Expert.
  • Certificates of registration and Practicing Licence for the Individual Experts.
  • Certificate of Registration /Incorporation
