Kenya - Apply for an Endorsement on a Non-Kenyan Passport(s)

Section 8(1) of the Kenya Citizenship and Immigration Regulation 2012 provides that the passport of any other country that is held by a dual citizen may, upon application by the holder, be endorsed to indicate that the holder is a citizen of Kenya.

Apply OnlineEdit

  1. The first step is to register with the Kenya electronic Foreign Nationals Services (eFNS) portal through the following link eFNS Online Platform.
  2. Click on create account then click on the Create an Account to register.
  3. You will need to fill in your personal information so to register for an eFNS account For Kenyan citizens, you will need your national ID number while foreigners residing in Kenya will need your foreigner certificate. If you do not have national ID or foreigner certificate, select other and use passport details to register.
  4. Once you have registered you will then need to login to your eFNS account and under the Submit application tab click on Submit new applications.
  5. This will direct you to the next page where you should make your next selection. Under the Citizenship Service Section, click on the Apply Now link in the Endorsement Tab.
  6. This will direct you to next page; where you are to read the instructions carefully, make sure you have all the requirements to make the application and then click on the Apply Now button which will direct you to the online application form.
  7. Fill in the online application form with all the required details and upload supporting documents. These details include:-
    (i). Upload your passport photo
    (ii). Full names
    (iii). Foreign Address (For those currently not living in Kenya)
    (iv). Postal and Physical Address in Kenya
    (v). Place and date of birth
    (vi). Upload birth certificate
    (vii). Nature of citizenship (birth, registration, naturalisation)
    (viii). Other citizenship
    (ix). Nature of other citizenship (birth, registration, naturalisation)
    (x). Passport ( number, place of issue , date of issue ,
    (xi). Upload police clearance certificate
    Then click on Save Application Details.
  8. If additional passport exist, you can add them for endorsement, if you don’t have an additional passport click on proceed to continue
  9. You will be directed to the next page where you can print your application form and present it to the Immigration Headquarters Offices in Nyayo House Nairobi or their regional offices for processing.
    • Make sure you present all the required documents to the Kenya immigration offices or missions abroad.
  10. Upon submission of the application document you will be requested to pay the application fee of Ksh 500 and your passport will be endorsed by the immigration officer.
  11. The processes takes normally 5 days from the date of submission to the immigration offices.

Apply in PersonEdit

  1. Applications can be done in person. The first step is to visit the Immigration Offices or Kenya missions abroad to make the application .Here you are required to present the required documents to the immigration officer. These include:-
    (i). 2 passport size photographs
    (ii). Copy of birth certificate
    (iii). Copy of applicant's Kenyan passport or Parent's Kenyan Passport
    (iv). Copy of Kenyan identity card
    (v). Copy of the other country’s passport
    (vi). Copy of the other country’s Citizenship certificate
    (vii). Copy of the Police Clearance Certificate
    • Applicants must ensure that they are lawfully present in the country as they wait for application to be finalized
  2. The immigration officer will provide you with an Application by Dual Citizen for Endorsement on Non-Kenyan Passport(S) FORM 3 to fill.
  3. You should then lodge the completed application form to the immigration offices or Kenya mission abroad.
  4. After lodging the Application for Endorsement on Non-Kenyan passport, the application will be sent to the Minister of Immigration in Kenya for approval.
  5. Upon approval of the application you will be requested to pay the application fee of Ksh 500 after which your non Kenyan Passport will be endorsed.
  6. The process takes an average of 30days to complete if you applying from abroad.

  • Kenyan citizens with dual citizenships are eligible to make the application
  • They should also be in possession of a valid passport form the other country and citizenship certificate.

  • A fee of Ksh. 500 is charged for the endorsement. This is Payable upon Application Approval.
