  1. To apply for a Frequency license, the application should be submitted to the Communications Authority of Kenya regional office where the broadcasting station shall operate.CAK Contact Details & Office Location
  2. The application for the license is done on the prescribed Frequency-Spectrum/License Application Formand in line with the guidelines for the application forthe Frequency License issued by the Authority.
  3. After downloading the applicable Application Form, fill it out and submit to the Authority the completed license application form and required supporting documents as stipulated on the “Required Documents” section of this page.
  4. On receipt of the application file, the CAK receiving officer shall check for completeness of the form to ensure it meets the licensing requirements and registers your application as received.
  5. The receiving officer will then issue the applicant with a Payment Instruction Form, which the cashier will use to receive payment of the requisite application fees of Ksh 1000.00 (non-refundable). Once payment is done, the Register with details of the application shall be updated with your application information.
  6. The receiving officer will forward the application and supporting documents to the next level officer for further scrutiny and confirmation that the application complies with all the requirements.
  7. The Authority examines the application to determine conformity with the provisions of the national Table Frequency Allocation (TOFA) and other relevant documentation regarding the proposed frequency band and technical parameters.
  8. In case of favourable findings, the Authority carries out technical analysisand identifies and reserves suitable frequencies for assignment to the applicant. Where it is not possible to assign the frequency the applicant is advised appropriately.
  9. Where the frequencies have been identified for assignment, the Authority reverts to the applicant with an offer to assign frequencies together with the relevant terms and conditions.
  10. The applicant is also advised to pay the applicable frequency fee before the assignment of the frequencies.
  11. Once the applicant remits the frequency fee, the Authority assigns the reserved frequencies and the applicant is required to put the frequency to use within the timeframe indicated in the frequency assignment letter.
  12. Where the applicant fails to utilize the assigned frequencies within the timeframe stipulated in the conditions of the assignment the Authority is at liberty to revoke the assignment.
  13. The validity period of the frequency license is one (01) year or part thereof and must be renewed annually by payment of the applicable frequency fees.
  14. The timeframe accumulatively for processing the application is with 08-15 working days.

  • Duly complete and signed the appropriate Frequence-Spectrum/License Application Form
  • Copy of the Certificate of incorporation (copy)/Business registration certificate
  • Copy of the Tax compliance certificate
  • Original form CR/12 (Certificate of Incorporation) or its equivalent from the Registrar of Companies/ relevant ministry listing the directors and shareholders of the organization/entity and details of their nationality and shareholding – (CR/12 should not be older than two (2) months from the date of issue) and (Note: Kenya Government Agencies are exempted from this requirement)
  • Work permit and passport (For foreign directors)
  • Identity card (For Kenyan citizens)
  • Any other supporting documentation as requested by the Authority.

EligibilityEdit

  • Any person(s) or company, society, and partnership registered in Kenya can apply for a license. However, political parties, movements, and human rights activists are not eligible for a frequency license.

Note: Payments can be made in Banker’s or company cheques at Cashier’s office on the ground floor at CA Centre. The Cashier’s office is open between 0900 and 1200 hours and in the afternoon from 1400 to 1600 hours on weekdays (and closed on public holidays and weekends)



ValidityEdit

  • The validity of a frequency license is valid for one (01) year and shall remain valid for that stipulated period unless suspended,revoked, and cancelled by the Authority.
  • The license should be renewed atleast one (01) month before the expiration of the current license.
