ProcedureEdit

  • If you are a Kenyan citizen or resident and you wish to travel to Tanzania, you may need to obtain a travel visa or permit depending on the purpose and duration of your stay. Here are the general steps to apply for a travel visa or permit to Tanzania:

Apply In-Person:

  1. Determine the type of visa or permit you need: Tanzania offers various types of visas and permits, depending on the purpose of your visit. The most common types of visas include tourist visas, business visas, and transit visas. You should determine the type of visa or permit you need before applying.
  2. Gather the required documents: The documents you need to provide will depend on the type of visa or permit you are applying for. Generally, you will need to provide a valid passport, a completed visa application form, a passport-sized photo, and proof of travel arrangements such as flight tickets or hotel reservations. Business travelers may also need to provide additional documents such as a letter of invitation from a Tanzanian business partner.
  3. Submit your application: You can apply for a Tanzanian visa or permit through the Tanzanian Embassy in Kenya or an online visa application portal. If you apply in person, you will need to visit the embassy during their business hours and submit your application along with the required documents. If you apply online, you will need to create an account on the visa application portal, complete the online application form, and upload the required documents.
  4. Pay the visa fee: You will need to pay a visa fee when you submit your application. The fee will depend on the type of visa or permit you are applying for and the duration of your stay.
  5. Attend an interview (if required): In some cases, you may be required to attend an interview at the embassy or consulate. This is common for long-term visas or specific visa categories.
  6. Wait for processing: After submitting your application and paying the fee, you will need to wait for the Tanzanian authorities to process your application. Processing times can vary depending on the volume of applications, so it's a good idea to apply well in advance of your planned travel dates.
  7. Track the application: After submitting your application, the embassy or consulate will provide you with an application tracking number. Use this number to track the progress of your application.
  8. Collect your visa or permit: Once your application has been approved, you can collect your visa or permit from the Tanzanian Embassy or the online application portal, depending on how you applied. Make sure to check the validity and conditions of your visa or permit before you travel to Tanzania.

Need for the DocumentEdit

A travel visa is typically required to enter Tanzania for tourism, business, education, or other purposes, depending on your nationality. The purpose of a travel visa is to regulate and monitor entry into the country and ensure that travelers meet the requirements for their visit.

Here are a few reasons why a travel visa to Tanzania may be required:

  • Tourism: If you are planning to visit Tanzania for sightseeing, explore national parks, wildlife safaris, or enjoy the country's natural beauty and cultural attractions, you will likely need a tourist visa.
  • Business: If you are traveling to Tanzania for business purposes, such as attending conferences, meetings, or engaging in business activities, you will typically require a business visa.
  • Education: If you plan to study or participate in educational programs in Tanzania, you will likely need a student visa or an appropriate visa for educational purposes.
  • Work: If you are planning to work in Tanzania, whether temporarily or permanently, you will typically require a work permit or work visa in addition to a travel visa.
  • Family Visit: If you are visiting family members or relatives in Tanzania, you may need a family visit visa to enter the country.
  • Transit: If you are transiting through Tanzania and will be staying in the country for a short period during your journey, you may require a transit visa.

Information which might helpEdit

  • All visitors wishing to come for tourist purposes are required to apply for ordinary visas EXCEPT American nationals (USA Passport holders) who are required to apply for Multiple Visa
  • If an applicant wishes to visit both Tanzania Mainland and Zanzibar, he/she is advised to select his first destination while filling out the form
  • The nearby Embassy is regarded as the Embassy closest to where the applicant is while applying for Visa, and If required, the applicant may be called to appear physically at that Embassy for an interview;
  • Every Passport holder is required to have his/her own Visa application submitted. in this case, even minors who filled in their parents’ Visa applications must have their own separate Visa applications submitted;
  • Once the Visa application is submitted, no further changes may be done and effected to such applications. If for any reason there will be some mismatch in information on the issued visa or flight changes that affects the arrival or departure date, the applicant will communicate this to the relevant immigration authority for guidance or assistance;
  • A business Visa is not a substitute for Residence Permit. As such, it cannot be extended nor renewed while the holder is still in the country;
  • Applicants of Multiple visas who are not USA nationals are strongly advised to read carefully and observe the requirements for each category of Multiple Visas as stipulated in the Visa Guidelines. Any application lacking the required attachment(s) will be disqualified.
  • Multiple Visa is not supposed to be used as a Residence Permit. The holder can stay at a maximum of 3 months on each visit. This does not mean that a holder should be staying for 3 months, leave for a while and come back for another 3 months.
  • Transit Visa is strictly for applicants who wish to pass through the United Republic of Tanzania to other countries and MUST be supported by onward ticket and Visa (If applicable) to such other country. Visiting Tanzania for tourism for a few days does not warrant the applicant to apply for Transit Visa.
  • All applicants (travelers) MUST show their return ticket upon arrival.
  • Applicants whose countries fall under Referral Visa are advised to observe the Visa Procedure for the Referral visa Category;

Other uses of the Document/CertificateEdit

Apart from its primary purpose of regulating entry into a country for specific travel purposes, a travel visa can have additional uses and benefits.

Here are a few examples:

  • Proof of Legal Entry: A travel visa serves as proof that you have obtained permission to enter a foreign country for a specific purpose, such as tourism, business, or education. It demonstrates that you have undergone the necessary checks and met the requirements to gain entry into the country.
  • Travel Flexibility: A travel visa allows you to travel to and within the country for the approved duration and purpose stated on the visa. It provides you with the flexibility to explore various destinations, engage in business activities, attend conferences or events, or pursue educational opportunities.
  • Multiple Entry: Some travel visas, such as multiple-entry visas, permit you to enter and exit the country multiple times within the visa's validity period. This can be particularly useful if you plan to make multiple trips to the country or if you intend to visit neighboring countries and return.
  • Visa Waiver Programs: In certain cases, possessing a valid travel visa for one country may grant you entry into other countries through visa waiver programs or reciprocal agreements. For example, having a valid Schengen visa allows for travel within the Schengen Area in Europe without needing individual visas for each country.
  • Facilitating Immigration Procedures: In some instances, a travel visa can be a stepping stone toward obtaining long-term residency or citizenship in a country. Certain visas or permits may serve as a pathway to residency or allow you to extend your stay and explore further opportunities for settlement or employment.

It's important to note that the specific uses and benefits of a travel visa can vary depending on the country and the type of visa issued. It is always advisable to familiarize yourself with the regulations and privileges associated with the particular travel visa you hold.
