Apply In-Person:
- To apply for wildlife utilization enterprise in Kenya, the applicant has to contact the Kenya Wildlife Services (KWS) offices to make the application.
- Here the applicant will be given an Application form KWS/WU/OG/AF/01 to fill and submit. The form can also be downloaded from the KWS website through the following link
- Fill the application form and indicate the in application form which type of wildlife utilization the applicant wants to engage in. Tick one of the following:
- Captive Breeding (Animals) for commercial exports
- Captive keeping (Animals) for ecotourism and education
- Ranching/rearing (Animals) for exports
- Artificial propagation/Cultivation (Plants) for export
- Harvesting from the Wild for export
- Wildlife Sanctuary for ecotourism and education++
- After filling the application form, attach the required documents. A list of the required documents can be found under the "Required Documents" section of this page.
- Proceed to make the required application fee payment. Details of the application fees can be found in the “Fees” section of this page.
- Submit the filled in application form, payment receipt and required documents to the submitted to the Director KWS through the respective Area Warden(s).
- The Area Warden shall review the application and make recommendations based on the stipulated standards and guidelines. The Area Warden shall then forward the application to the KWS Licensing Officer for consideration.
- The KWS Licensing Officer shall further review the application and if the application meets all the requirements the licensing officer will approve and issue the license.
- Upon approval of the application, the Area Warden will ensure the enforcement & compliance of rules and regulations.
- The application takes a 21 days to be completed.

- License fee Ksh. 2,000.00 per CITES species.
- License fee Ksh. 1,000.00 per non-CITES species.

- Topography (main land features and the general terrain)
- Land-use (a brief outline on current socio-economic activities on the land and its environs) Land sketch plan for the proposed operation and immediate surrounding
- Sketch plan on a separate sheet of paper outlining the principle physical features and infrastructure of the land e.g. boundaries, roads, fences)
- FACILITY INFRASTRUCTURE (ANIMALS)
- (Provide a descriptive sketch plan on a separate sheet of paper outlining the following structures)
- Enclosures/cages design (to include sizes, Lighting/sources of light and voltage, Watering etc.
- Number and distribution of enclosures/cages
- Shelter area for species
- Security and safety arrangements
- Care and Handling (Animals) (Provide details on how the following aspects will be managed)
- Feeding regime (Types of food and source, frequency and time of feeding, water supply)
- Animal Displays (describe standards to be employed when displaying animals under the operation)
- WILDLIFE BUSINESS PLAN (Provide the following information on: proposed project budget, Source of capital, projected 5-year revenue, Economic rate of return (ERR), projected plough back capital to the operation etc.)

Need for the DocumentEdit
- This license allows holder to operative a wildlife utilization enterprise in Kenya.
- It’s illegal to capture/ breed wildlife for either for ornamental , commercial, ecotourism and education purpose without a license issued by the KWS.
