Procedure

Apply In-Person

1. To apply for a passport in Jamaica, you should visit the Passport, Immigration and Citizenship Agency (PICA) head office or regional offices if you are in Jamaica. You can view PICA’s location map and contact details via this link: Link
2. Go to the PICA office near you to obtain the passport application form or download it electronically via PICA’s website: Link (Passport application form) or directly via this link: Link
3. Read the instruction provided in the application form and fill it accordingly.
4. Then obtain all the required documents and have them certified as recommended in the application form. Note: photocopied or laminated documents will not be accepted.
5. Then visit PICA’s office and pay the application fee according to the service you wish to apply for i.e. normal service or expedited service.
6. Once you have paid the application fee, submit your application at to all the required documents to passport processing officer at the service window for verification.
7. The service officer will confirm your application and you will be issued an acknowledgement receipt with details of your application and return the original documents to you.
8. Then you will be directed to another section where your biometric data will be collected and forwarded to the passport processing office
9. Then passport will be processed according to the service you applied for and avail for collection on the date and time mentioned in the acknowledgment receipt
10. Visit the PICA’s office where you made you application, present the acknowledgment receipt for verification and you will be issued with your new passport

• Present any of the following documents (original):
  • Birth Certificate
  • Certificate of Registration
  • Certificate of Naturalization
  • Adoption Certificate
  • Letter of Certification of Citizenship
• For individuals claiming Jamaican Citizenship by Descent:
  • Applicant's Birth Certificate
  • Proof of Parent's Jamaican Citizenship
  • Two certified passport photographs
• Valid identification:
  • National Voter's ID
  • Driver's Licence
  • Previously issued passport
  • Other identification will be subject to approval by the Passport Officers (Example: Company ID)
• Prove of change of name (deed pool)
• Married woman to provide their certified copy of the Marriage Certificate or Divorce Judgement(s), where the married name is being used
• Two identical passport size photos taken not more than six months prior to submission of your application

Processing Time

• Regular turnaround time for processing a passport application is seven working days for applications submitted at PICA’s head office in Kingston. Applications submitted through PICA’s regional offices will be processed in 14 working days and 11 working days in the case of PICA’s office in Portmore. Expedited services are available to applicants who desire a quicker turnaround time. Applicants can benefit from same day, next day and three-day expedited service at PICA’s headquarters at 25 Constant Spring Road in Kingston ONLY. Expedited services are also available at the PICA outposts for five-day and seven-day turnaround times.

• Renewals do not require personal appearance. However, in some instances an authorized officer may require the appearance of the applicant. A minor over 3 years of age applying for renewal is required to appear in person.
• Applicants form abroad should check with their nearest Jamaican office for first time passport application
