Procedure

Apply In-Person

1. To apply for the Banana Export Permit, you should go to the Banana Industry Board (BIB) of Jamaica, you can view the BIB’s contact details via the contact provided in the “Office Locations & Contacts” section below
2. Write a letter or email addressed to BIB requesting the export permit, the letter should provide details of the company, export description, quantities of the export
3. The BIB will assess the application and identify suppliers and advice the supplier/s where export quantities are available
4. Then you will discuss with BIB on the appointed supplier and agree with them based on the export quantities available
5. Then agree on terms with growers and advise BIB of quantities from growers and when export will commence.
6. Then the BIB will process the permit and calculate the fees to be paid by you based on the quantity of the bananas
7. The BIB will inform you of the total permit’s fee and request you to make the payment
8. Visit the BIB office and pay the permit’s fee at the BIB’s account office or pay the fees at the bank and obtain the payment receipt
9. Submit the payment receipt to the BIB service desk
10. Upon payment, the export permit will be processed and issued to you
11. Then provide the BIB with the export declaration of each shipment and the Harvest the banana, process, and package according to BIB QMS for GLOBAL G.A.P
12. Then the BIB will inspect the consignment according to standards and evaluates whether quarantine is satisfied with the consignment
13. If consignment either does not meet standards or quarantine not satisfied with consignment, the farmer will be informed of the dissatisfactions
14. If consignment meets both the standards and the quarantine is satisfied with the consignment, the exporter is notified of suitability and the BIB will you an export certificate of the importing market requires it
