Using JSWIFT

  1. The office in charge for issuing import permit is The Trade broad of Jamaica under the Ministry of Industry, Commerce, Agriculture and Fisheries (MICAF). Please view the Trade board contact details and location map via this link: Link
  2. However to apply for the import permit, you should submit your application online through the Jamaica Single Window for Trade (JSWIFT)
  3. Access JSWIFT portal by clicking on Link and click on “login” in the information bar to go to your account or click on “Register” to create an account if you are not a registered user.
  4. Fill the online registration form correctly and upload your identification documents as required.
  5. Read and Agree to the Terms and Condition by clicking on the check box and then click on the reCAPTCHA to confirm that you are not a robot and then submit your application by clicking on the “Submit” button.
  6. You will then be directed to the next page where you can review your application in details and opt to edit it by Clicking on the “Go Back” button or confirm submission once if you are satisfied with the application.
  7. The you will receive an acknowledgment notification confirming to you that you application has been successfully submitted and that you should check according to pussy slap your email account to verify the email address that you have provided
  8. Check your email account and verify your email address and then you will be directed to another link where you will find your JSWIFT user name.
  9. Obtain the user name and click on the provided link to create your JSWIFT account password, In the next page key in your user name and preferred password, ensure that the password matches in the confirming password box and Click on “Create” you will then receive a notification informing you the your password has been successfully set
  10. Now go to the JSWIFT website: Link and login using your account user name and password
  11. Once logged in, in the dashboard select “Permit” and then Select “New” choose the regime of your application in this case “Import”
  12. Then enter the general required information, details of the item to be imported, and attach al the required documents and pay the required fees using the online platform and submit your complete application.
  13. Once you submit, the application is automatically assigned to the Trade Board Assessor and processed by way of “Approval”, “Query” for additional details or “Rejected” in whichever case you will be notified of the outcome through your email address
  14. Upon approval, the finalized permit application is sent to ASYCUDA system under Jamaican custom agency.
  15. Visit the ASYCUDA Link login into the system to upload your approved Import permit

  • Drug permit to be obtained from the Ministry of Health.


Plant Extracts:

Chemical and Gases:

  • Drug permit to be obtained from the Ministry of Health.


Explosives:

  • Permit from the Commissioner of Police;
  • Same to be stamped and signed by the Collector of Customs;
  • Ministry of National Security & Justice to grant approval


Motor Vehicles:

  • Invoice/ Bill of Sale
  • Registration Certificate or Certificate of Title (for used Vehicles)
  • Importers TRN
  • Valid ID (for individuals)
  • Note: Beginning January 2, 2016 all commercially purchased used motor vehicles to be imported into Jamaica from Japan, United Kingdom, United States of America, Singapore, United Arab Emirates, and South Africa will require a Pre-shipment Inspection (PSI) also known as Dealer Disclosure Certificate (DDC).


Guns and other Explosive Weapons:

  • Approval from the Firearm Licensing Authority
  • The Ministry of National Security (MNS)


Recreation Equipment:

  • Approval from the Firearm Licensing Authority &The Ministry of National Security (MNS)
  • Approved based on the policies and procedures of the Betting, Gaming and Lotteries Act

EligibilityEdit

You will need to secure an import license/permit if you will be importing these following items
Milk and other Concentrated Products:

  • Milk and cream: concentrated or containing added sugar or other sweetening matter
  • In powder granules or the solid forms. Of fat content (not exceeding 1.5%)
  • In powder, granules or other solid forms. Of a fat content (exceeding 1.5%)


Plants:

  • Plants and parts of plants (include seeds and fruits) of a kind used only in perfumery. In pharmacy or for insecticidal fungicidal or similar purposes, fresh or dried. Whether or not cut, crushed or powdered. (Only those Hs. Nos. listed below)
  • Other plant part for perfume and pharmaceutical purposes, eg., cannabis and cocoa leaf .


Plant Extracts:

  • Lac: Natural gums, resins, gum resins and balsam (only those Hs. Nos. listed below)
  • Cannabis resin
  • Vegetable saps and extracts; pectic substances, pectinates and pectates; agar agar and other mucilages and thickeners. Whether or not modified. Derived from vegetable products.
  • Vegetables, saps and extracts eg. Agar-Agar concentrate of poppy straw, extracts and tinctures of cannabis and opium.


Sugar:

  • Cane and beet sugar and chemically pure sucrose, in solid form
  • Refined Sugar


Cement:

  • Portland cement, aluminous cement, slag cement. Supersulphate cement and similar hydraulic cements, whether or not coloured or in the form of clinkers (only those Heading Nos. listed below)

Note: The Motor Vehicle Imports Policy has been amended to allow for importation of motor cars and light commercial vehicles of ages not exceeding five (5) years and six (6) years, respectively. Guns and other Explosive Weapons:
