Apply In-Person
- Register your horse with the Jamaican Racing Commission (JRC)
- To register a horse, you have to obtain and complete a registration form. i.e., The Thoroughbred registration form must be completed by a locally registered Veterinarian, who is neither the breeder nor the owner of the foal. You must also complete the Stallion Service Certificate, signed by you or an authorized agent. Please find the forms under the “Documents to Use” section below
- Submit the completed Thoroughbred registration form together with the Stallion Service Certificate to the JRC for registration of the horse.
- Pay the registration fee.
- The JRC will validate your application and you will be required to take a written and a riding test which you must pass
- Once you have satisfied the JRC standard requirements, your horse will be registered and you will be issued the registration documents
- Obtain approval for your horse’s Name by the JRC:
- Make sure that the name of the horse is approved by the Jamaica Racing Commission completing the name claim form:Link Please read the form carefully while filling it note that there is a list of some names that you may not use.
- Make sure that you (the owners) are currently registered with the JRC and that your trainer is currently licensed
- Register your training agreement:
- Both you the owner and the trainer must complete and sign a Training Agreement: Link Note: You must read the form carefully before signing it.
- Bring the completed form to the office of the Jamaica Racing Commission for registration.
- Pay the registration fee and have the agreement registered
- Have your horse vaccinated and micro-chipped
- You should apply for Micro-Chipping at least 5 working days before the horse is expected to be nominated to race
- Finally, your horse must be passed by the starter (gate test).

EligibilityEdit
For a horse to be eligible to race:
- The horse must be registered
- The name of the horse must be approved by the Jamaica Racing Commission.
- The owner must be currently registered.
- The trainer must be currently licensed.
- Neither owner nor trainer must be a disqualified person.
- A training agreement must be registered with the Jamaica Racing Commission.
- The horse’s vaccination must be current.
- The horse must be micro-chipped.
- The horse must be passed by the starter (gate test).
