Apply In-Person

  1. To apply for a new Motorcycle Rider’s/Driver’s license, you need to submit your application to the Island Traffic Authority (ITA) but you must first obtain a provisional driver’s license from the local Inland Revenue Department or Tax Office.   2. After obtaining a provisional driver’s license, complete the driving/riding lessons from an experienced driver/rider with a valid driver’s/rider’s license, your instructor should also teach you basic mechanical skill
  3. Now, obtain the application form for the motorcycle driver’s license from the Tax Office or download it from their website: Link (Form F1 & F3 - Application for Driver's Licence (Private & Motor Cycle Driver's Licence). You can also download the application form directly via this link:Link
  4. Fill the application form correctly and then take it to a Justice of peace or a Superintendent of police or a member of the attorney to certify the application
  5. Pay the driver’s license examination fee at the Tax Office or the nearest examination depot (debit/credit card only) and obtain the payment receipt.
  6. Contact the Island Traffic Authority (ITA) in your parish to book an appointment for the driver’s license examination
  7. On the appointment date, visit the ITA with your provisional driver’s license and the driver’s license examination payment receipt attached to the certified driver’s license application form
  8. Then submit the complete application to the ITA official at the service desk for verification
  9. Once verified, you will undergo a test for reading ability, road code, and /or mechanical knowledge and if required you will be needed to complete a yard test which you will be required to pass and then proceed to complete a full sentence of the examination
  10. Then the examination department will enter your results into their system and forward your documents (Certificate of Competence) to a specified Tax office for processing of your driver’s license
  11. Visit the Tax office where your certificate of competence was sent, and pay the license fees at the cashier and obtain the payment receipt
  12. Then an official will require you to fill the necessary forms and may ask you to do a reading test.
  13. Then the official will confirm your information in their database and then take your photograph
  14. You will be issued your driver’s license


Applicants with a Valid Drivers License

  1. If you already have a driver’s license and you wish to add a motorcycle license to it, you first pay for the examination fees at the tax office for J$3240 and obtain the payment receipt
  2. Then visit the Examination depot in your location with the payment receipt to schedule a date for the exams
  3. On the scheduled date, visit the examination depot and complete the driver’s/rider’s license exams. Note that you will need to go to the exam depot with a motorbike and pass the provided exams
  4. Upon passing the exams, the examiner will inform you of the date to visit the tax office to collect your license
  5. Obtain the application form F7 from the Tax office or download it from the website:Link (Form F7 - Application for Driver's Licence Transaction(s))
  6. Complete the form accordingly and visit the Tax office to submit the form alongside the required documents
  7. Once in the office pay the applicable fees for the substitute driver’s license and obtain the payment receipt
  8. Submit the complete application including the payment receipt to the Tax office official at the service
  9. The official will verify your application and confirm your data in their system. If applicable you will be required to complete a reading test
  10. Upon verification of your application, the official will issue your motorcycle driver’s license
