Procedure

1. Go to the office of Touring & Automobile Club of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
2. Complete an application to obtain an International Driving Permit (IDP).
3. Submit the completed form together with your valid driver's license, passport and picture.
4. Pay the application fee.

Required Documents

• Driver's license issued by Islamic Republic of Iran, it validity must be over a year. Your driver's license must remain valid for at least three years if you are applying for a three-year international driver's license
• One piece picture (size: 3 x 4). For women applicants, you must be wearing an Islamic veil.
• Previous international driver's license (if applicable)
• Passport
• Completed application

Validity

IDPs are not valid in an individual's country of residence. An IDP is valid for one year from the effective date provided the Iranian license is still valid throughout that period. You can also obtain an IDP which is valid for three years.

Instructions

Article 24 of the United Nations Convention on Road Traffic (1949) authorizes Touring & Automobile Club of the Islamic Republic of Iran (TACI) to issue IDPs to those who hold valid Iranian driver's licenses.

Also, the Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran has designated TACI as an exclusive authorized distributor of IDPs. Before departure from Iran, you can obtain an IDP by contacting your local TACI representative.

Information which might help

International Driving Permits issued by unauthorized persons: The Government is aware that IDPs are being sold over the Internet and in person by persons not authorized by the Government pursuant to the requirements of the U.N. Convention of 1949. Moreover, many of these IDPs are being sold for large sums of money, far greater than the sum charged by entities authorized by the U.N. Convention of 1949. Consumers experiencing problems should contact their local Police Office or the Touring & Automobile Club of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Other uses of the Document/Certificate

• International Driving Permits (IDPs) are honored in more than 150 countries outside the Islamic Republic of Iran. They function as an official translation of an Iranian driver's license into 6 foreign languages.
• IDPs are not intended to replace valid Iranian licenses and should only be used as a supplement to a valid license. Make sure than when you travel abroad you carry with you both your Iranian Driver's License and your IDP.
