ProcedureEdit

There are two types of application, local application and overseas application. Select and fill in the correct application form for the specific category you are applying to.

In person

  • The application forms can be downloaded below. (Download the appropriate form.)
  • Use block letter and black or blue inked pens in answering the application form. For under 16 years of age applicants, the application form must be signed by a parent or legal guardians.
  • Submit the application form with the specified photograph

By Post

You can send your application by post to:

Drop-in

Except for replacement of lost or damaged passport, you can put the application in the drop in boxes that processes the travel document application at any the Immigration Offices.


Online

Except for replacement of lost or damaged passport or amendment of personal particulars in passport, you can submit your application online if you meet the standards below:

  • eligible for an HKSAR Passport
  • aged 11 or above
  • able to collect your new passport in person at the selected Immigration Office

Note:Unmarried applicants aged 11 and 17 years of age must be accompanied by consenting parent or legal guardian for collection of passport in person, for appending his/her signature on the to application form.


For 18 years and above

  1. Complete the applicable online application form.
  2. Upload a recent photograph that meets the standard and also the copy of existing permanent identification card.


For 16 and 17 years of age

  1. Complete the applicable online application form.
  2. Upload the following:
    1. recent photograph that meets the standard
    2. copy of your existing permanent identity card (PIC)
    3. copy of your consenting parent or legal guardian's Hong Kong identity card or valid travel document
    4. copy of your birth certificate
    5. if married, letter of consent from parents or legal guardian isn't required, only a copy of your marriage certificate is required


For 11 to 15 years of age

  1. Complete the applicable online application form.
  2. Upload the following:
    1. recent photograph that meets the standard
    2. copy of your existing permanent identity card (PIC)
    3. copy of your consenting parent or legal guardian's Hong Kong identity card or valid travel document
    4. copy of your birth certificate

  • Colored photograph with plain white background (40mm (width) X 50mm (height))
  • Copy of your existing Hong Kong permanent identity card (PIC) and other supporting documents (if any)
  • Consenting parent or legal guardian's Hong Kong identity card or valid travel documents (for 17 years of age and below applicants)
  • Child's birth certificate (for 17 years of age and below applicants)

  • A permanent resident of the HKSAR
  • A holder of a valid Hong Kong permanent identity card

For persons aged 16 or above (valid for 10 years)

  • 32 pages HK$370 (or US$48)
  • 48 pages HK$460 (or US$59)

For children aged under 16 (valid for 5 years)

  • 32 pages HK$185 (or US$24)
  • 48 pages HK$230 (or US$29.5)


Surcharges for Applicants Outside Hong Kong

Delivery by double registered air mail

  • HK$43 (or US$6)

Delivery by express despatch service

  • Asia-Pacific HK$125 (or US$16.50)
  • North America and Europe HK$180 (or US$23.50)
  • Rest of the world HK$250 (or US$32.50)

Bank handling charge (If the cheque or bank draft is not drawn on a bank in the HKSAR or not in HKSAR currency)

Processing TimeEdit

The normal processing time is 10 working days after all the complete documents have been received. For online application, it takes additional 2 to 3 working days.
