Apply In-Person :

  1. If you have lost or your RC is stolen, as a first step please go to the local police station and file an FIR and bring a copy of it to the RTO office.
  2. You don’t require a police complaint in case of your RC is torn, damaged etc. The remains stands as one of the document
  3. To obtain duplicate registration certificate in Himachal Pradesh the applicant has to approach the RTO office to which his area belongs to. Following link can provide you information related to the list of RTO office : RTO Office
  4. Application in Form 26 is required. Application forms can be obtained from the following link : Form 26
  5. Please make sure you have all the documents that are listed down the “Required Document” section of this page.
  6. Application forms can also be obtained from the appropriate RTO offices that can be completed and presented with appropriate fees.
  7. Present the completed application forms in one of the counter and pay the appropriate fee where the officials would start processing your application.
  8. After your application is verified for correctness including chassis number, make and other advised fittings and appropriate fees are paid the duplicate registration certificate will be provided.

Apply online

  1. Visit the following portal: portal.
  2. Now select the state from the drop down menu.
  3. After selecting the state the applicant will be redirected to the vahan parivahan website.
  4. On the new page on the left side there is a box to select state and RTO, click on proceed.
  5. Select online services to “Apply for Transfer of Ownership, Change of Address, Hypothecation [Addition/Continuation/Termination], Duplicate RC]”.
  6. Enter the vehicle details such as Vehicle Registration No. and Chassis Number (Last 5 characters) and click on the “Verify Details” button.
  7. Now the complete details of the vehicle will be visible.
  8. Now select the “Duplicate RC” option.
  9. Fill in all the details and pay the application fees.
  10. Check the notification address to get the certificate in a stipulated period of time.



Apply through Centres:

  1. To apply through centres, the applicant has to visit the respective “CSC” centre. Please tap on the following link to locate the centre according to the respective district: link.
  2. Make sure to have the documents that are listed under the “Required Documents” section of this page.
  3. An application form can be obtained through the kiosk operator upon visiting the centre.
  4. It is advised to take the documents in original to the kiosk for scanning purposes.
  5. The operator will process the application online.
  6. On successful submission, the applicant will receive an application number as acknowledgement.
  7. Pay the fee as given in the “Fees” section of this page and collect the receipt.
  8. After the application form is processed, an enquiry officer will make a thorough verification regarding the documents submitted along with the form.
  9. Collect the acknowledgment slip after submitting the form.
  10. Use the acknowledgment slip to get the certificate in a stipulated period of time.

  4. Pollution under control certificate
  5. Valid Insurance Certificate.
  6. Proof of address (any one of the following) : Ration Card / Electoral Roll / LIC Policy / Affidavit sworn by the applicant before an Executive or First Class Judicial
  7. Pencil traced “Chassis Number” is the primary detail for applying
  8. Aadhaar card

Need for the DocumentEdit

  1. All the vehicles need to be registered as per the Motor Vehicle Act, 1988. The vehicles are provided with unique registration number. Once the vehicle is registered, a certificate is issued to the owner. The registration certificate is used as a proof for authorized owner of the vehicle.
  2. If the Registration certificate is lost, stolen, damaged or misplaced then one need to apply for a duplicate registration certificate for Vehicle.
  3. After one registers his / her vehicle – He / She will receive a unique number to use it in number board.
  4. When a bike owned by an individual sold to another person – the name transfer has to be made with the authorities concerned.

  2. FC (for clearance) is a process meant for reviewing the condition of the vehicle registered.
