Procedure

Apply In-Person :

1. To change address for vehicle registration certificate in Himachal Pradesh the applicant has to approach the RTO office to which his area belongs to. Following link can provide you information related to the list of RTO office : RTO Office
2. Application in HP CMV FORM 33 is required. Application forms can be obtained from the following link : Form 33
3. Please make sure you have all the documents that are listed down the “Required Document” section of this page.
4. Application forms can also be obtained from the appropriate RTO offices that can be completed and presented with appropriate fees.
5. Present the completed application forms in one of the counter and pay the appropriate fee where the officials would start processing your application.
6. Physical verification of vehicle for chassis number will be carried. After verifying the submitted documents, officials will make the changes respectively.
7. The change of address will be made on the RC.
   
   

Apply Online:

1. To change address for vehicles, the applicant has to visit the official portal of the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways: Link to Portal
2. In the homepage, please scroll down to “Informational Services” and click on the “more” button in the “Citizen Guide” tab.
3. The applicant will be taken to the “Manual” page where all the available services will be listed.
4. Please click on the name of the required service and click on “Step by Step procedure” from the drop down menu.
5. The applicant will be taken to a new PDF page where the process for applying will be explained clearly.
6. Please follow the steps to complete the application.

Apply through Centres:

1. To apply through centres, the applicant has to visit the respective “CSC” centre. Please tap on the following link to locate the centre according to the respective district: link.
2. Make sure to have the documents that are listed under the “Required Documents” section of this page.
3. An application form can be obtained through the kiosk operator upon visiting the centre.
4. It is advised to take the documents in original to the kiosk for scanning purposes.
5. The operator will process the application online.
6. On successful submission, the applicant will receive an application number as acknowledgement.
7. Pay the fee as given in the “Fees” section of this page and collect the receipt.
8. After the application form is processed, an enquiry officer will make a thorough verification regarding the documents submitted along with the form.
9. Collect the acknowledgment slip after submitting the form.
10. Use the acknowledgment slip to get the certificate in a stipulated period of time.

Validity

1. Change of address will not affect the validity
2. Usually a vehicle registration certificate is valid for 15 years from the date of issue and can be renewed for a period of 5 years after expiry.

Every owner of Motor Vehicle shall cause the Vehicle to be Registered by a Registration Authority in whose Jurisdiction he has residence or place of business where the vehicle is normally kept.

Need for the Document

1. Any change in the address of the vehicle owner has to be intimated and obtain a copy of the registration certificate
2. This change of address is required by the government bodies to intimate the permit holder for the dues, penalties or any intimation.
3. Vehicle registration's purpose is to establish clear ownership and to tax motorist or vehicle owners. It is a requirement by the state.
4. After, one registers his / her vehicle – He / She will receive a unique number to use it in number board
