Procedure

If your driver license is valid and it’s lost or stolen, then you would have to file a FIR with the local police station and you will be requested to produce the report with the application for a duplicate driving license. If in case it is destroyed, defaced or torn or completely written up, then you have to produce the remains along with application and no need for police complaint.

Apply In-Person :

1. To apply for a Duplicate Driver License in Himachal Pradesh the applicant has to approach the RTO office to which his area belongs to. Following link can provide you information related to the list of RTO office : RTO Office
2. Application Forms 1 L.L.D. is required. Application forms can be obtained from the following link : Application
3. The applicant should make sure they are eligible for applying for driver license by reading through the eligibility criteria that has been listed out under the “Eligibility” section of this page.
4. Please make sure you have all the documents that are listed down in the “Required Document” section of this page.
5. Application forms can also be obtained from the appropriate RTO offices that can be completed and presented with appropriate fees.
6. Present the completed application forms in one of the counter and pay the appropriate fee where the officials would start processing your application.

1. In order to apply for online, the applicant need to visit the official page using the following link.Link: link
2. The applicant need to select "Online Services" from the menu and click on "Driver License Related Services".
3. The applicant need to select the Language (English / Hindi) and State as “Himachal Pradesh”
4. In the following screen the applicant need to select “Apply Online” to get a drop down menu. Please click “Services on Driving License” to proceed with completion of online application process.
5. The applicant need to fill up the application form on-line and upload the requested documents appropriately.
6. The applicant need to reach the RTO office before the appointment time as scheduled during online application process.
7. After verification of the documents, the applicant will be provided with the driver license.

2. Police Certificate FIR (in case of theft / missing)
3. Aadhaar Card
4. Proof of age, appropriate for relevant class of vehicle :
   1. Ration card, Voter identity card, Life insurance policy, Passport, School certificate, Birth certificate or
   2. Certificate granted by a registered medical practitioner not below the rank of a Civil Surgeon(as applicable) or
   3. Self-swearing Affidavit by an applicant before an executive Magistrate or a First Class Judicial Magistrate or a Notary Public as evidence of age
5. Proof of residence :
   1. Ration Card, Voter identity card, Aadhar Identity Card, Pay slip issued by any office of the central government or a state government; Electricity bill, Telephone bill, House tax receipt showing the name of the name of the applicant
   2. If the applicant is not able to produce any of the above documents for a sufficient reason the licensing authority may accept any affidavit sworn by the applicant before an Executive Magistrate, or a First Class Judicial Magistrate or a Notary Public as evidence of residence
6. Driving license remains (in case of damaged ones) :

Need for the Document

A Driving License is an official document certifying that the holder is suitably qualified to drive a motor vehicle. Under the provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 in India, no person can drive a motor vehicle in any public place unless he holds a valid Driving License issued to him, authorizing him to drive a vehicle of that particular category.
