Greenland - Obtain a Fishing License
ProcedureEdit
Fishing licences from Greenland & Denmark
To be able to purchase a fishing licence a bank transfer has to be made from a Greenlandic/Danish bank to the Department of Fisheries, Hunting and Agricultures bank account. You may make use of your bank's online services, only if you do not need your fishing license right away.
The official money-transfer receipt from the bank is your personal fishing licence, which you need to carry with you while fishing.
The receipt needs to contain these following information:
- One of the following amounts transferred to the Departments bank account:
- DKR 75,-: For a 24 hour licence
- DKR 200,-: For a 1 week licence
- DKR 500,-: For a 1 month licence
- The money transfer shall include the following reference text, which also has to appear on your receipt:
- The first nine characters of your last name example Kristians for Kristiansen
- One space
- The first three characters in your name example Mic for Michael
- One space
- The first three characters of the (starting) month you wish the licence to be valid in example: jun for June
- One space
- The date for the first day you wish the license to be valid from example 21
- In this case, the text is Kristians mic jun 21
Note: Online banking services can therefore only be used if you can wait for the official receipt to be mailed to you by your bank or if you can print a receipt yourself.

Information which might helpEdit
Things you need to know:
- Access to virtually all Arctic char rivers requires that you travel by air or go by boat to the destination. You must remember that any boat used must be approved by local authorities for passenger transport.
- In Greenland, recreational fishing is done with hooks without barbs.
- You may only take the fish that you can eat on the trip, and all living catches must be released again.
- Western Greenland: Fishing destinations can only be reached by boat or helicopter and every river usually has no more than six to twelve fishermen at a time. There are local operators in the area with extensive knowledge of the countryside and fishing, that provides camps and transportation in cooperation with professional fishing guides. Fly fishing and fishing with spinning rod are both available in July and August.
- Southern Greenland: At the farm Ipiutaq near Narsaq, and on the rivers further inland in Tunulliarfik, also known as Erics fiord, the best time to make use of both spin and fly rod is from mid-July to September. The river Ilua is located in the neighboring valley of Ipiutaq guest farm, other rivers in the area are also well suited for fly fishing and spinner fishing. The accessibility of individual rivers makes it possible to buy day trips, especially from Narsarsuaq.
