Procedure

Apply In-Person:

1. In general for one to Renewal of Permit or License for Drilling one need to approach the Ghana Head Office Water Resources Commission contact link
2. An application for the renewal of the License may be made to the WRC not later than thirty (30) days before the expiration of the License.
3. Applicant must obtain the application form from the relevant department.
4. Applicant should read carefully in the application form, after all details must be filled in the application form.
5. The applicant has to make sure he or she has all the required documents that are required for this process to be successful and they can be found under the "Required Documents" section of this page.
6. Payment of appropriate fees should be made and that can be found under the "Fees" section of this page.
7. Applicant should attach required documents in the application form.
8. Submit the completed form along with the supporting documents (listed below) to the attending staff for verification and processing.
9. This application will be processed and information will be verified by the authority.
10. If the verification is successful, the notification will be sent to the applicant.
11. The applicant after seeing the notification can go to the authority and applicant get the renewal certificate.
12. The processing time for this procedure takes 2 months.

• Applicants who have a License for Drilling are eligible to apply for this application.

Fees

• The administrative fee is GH¢ 1,500.00 and it is non-refundable.

• A brief, if the company is currently under litigation for reasons pertaining to environmental pollution. (This applies to private businesses only)

Need for the Document

Water Resources Commission (WRC) Act, (Act 522 of 1996)

• Water Use Regulations, Legislative Instrument (LI 1692 of 2001) for the administration and issuance of Water Use Permits to regulate water abstraction and control pollution
• Drilling Licence and Groundwater Development Regulations (LI 1827 of 2006) to licence water drilling companies and regulate the development of groundwater resources.
• Dam Safety Regulations (LI 2236 of 2016) for regulating dam design, construction, operations, maintenance, and decommissioning to ensure uniform and adequate level of safety for all dams.

• Pursuant to the Water Resources Commission Act, No. 522, and the Water Drilling License and Groundwater Development Regulations (2006) LI 1827, no person shall drill and develop water well without a Drilling License obtainable from the Water Resources Commission (WRC).
• In order for the WRC to process applications for Water Drilling Licence expediently, it is important that you complete the form as detailed as possible and include all the relevant documents. Applications will not be processed unless all the required information is included.
