Procedure

Apply In-Person:

1. To Obtain License for Processed Fish (Dried/Smoked) in Ghana, the applicant has to approach the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture Development.

3. Applicant must obtain the application form from the MOFAD department.
4. Prepare the necessary background and the relevant information then fill up the appropriate application form as described by the MOFAD.
5.  The applicant has to make sure that he or she has all the required documents that are required for this process to be successful and they can be found under the "Required Documents" section of this page.
6. After filling the form proceed to pay the prescribed fee. Payment of appropriate fees should be made and that can be found under the "Fees" section of this page.
7. Ensure that the application fee is submitted and all the required information is included with application.
8. Submit the dully filled in form attached with pay slip to the Health Officer in charge of Fish and Animal products in the area in which the By-products and processed fish processing plant is located. The health officer shall carryout inspection of, the premises and safety of the industrial processing of Fish and fishery products.
9. Before a permit is issues the health inspector office shall carryout inspection on the premises and safety of the industrial processing of Fish and fishery products.
10. Collect the applicant By-product and Processed fish License from where his /her application was submitted within 7 days from the date the application was received at Ministry of MOFAD in case there is no rejection.

Eligibility

• All individuals and agencies dealing in the distribution pattern of by product fish and dry fish products for international, regional and local markets for either home consumption or Export activities in Ghana are eligible for this License.

Fees

• Application Fees: GHS.10,000
• License Fee: 500,000 GHS

Validity

• A license issued under this Act is valid for one year and expire on 31 December every year.
