Procedure

Apply In-Person:

1. To Obtain Export Licence (permit) for Animal Hides and Skin in person, the applicant has to contact/visit the Ghana Veterinary Service offices to make the application.

3. Applicant must obtain the application form from the relevant department.
4. Applicant should read carefully in the application form, after all details must be filled in the application form.
5. The applicant has to make sure that he or she has all the required documents that are required for this process to be successful and they can be found under the "Required Documents" section of this page.
6. Please make sure that the applicant has the pay the fees that are listed down the “fees” section of this page.
7. This application will be processed and the information will be verified by the MOFA.
8. If the verification is successful, the notification will be sent to the applicant.
9. The applicant after seeing the notification can go to the MOFA office and the applicant gets the certificate.
10. The processing time for this procedure is 2 to 3 days.

Eligibility

Farmers, companies and institution dealing in large scale animal’s Hides and skins for Export are eligible.

Fees

• License fee is GHS. 50,000.

Validity

• A license expires on the 31st December each year and it is renewable only on condition that one complies with the hides and skins export Act.

Instructions

A license may then be granted under the following conditions:

• Availability of water
• Availability of a drainage system
• A shed/shelter where the hides/skins will be preserved and kept and
• A quarantine area (only for an exporters license)
• No person shall export any hide or skin unless he or she is in possession of a valid exporters-buyers license in the prescribed form issued to him or her by the licensing officer.
• An exporters-buyers license shall not be transferable by the licensee to any other person.

Need for the Document

• Purpose of this permit is to regulate the hides and skins export.
• All business or individual’s dealing with large scales of animals Hides and Skins should be licensed, as stipulated by the Hides and Skins Trade Act Cap 89 of Ghana.
