Procedure

Apply In-Person:

1. Application form for Advertise Drugs in Mass Media is available in the Food and drugs authority (FDA) regional office in Ghana. contact link
2. The applicant has to approach the FDA office. Then, the applicants can get their application form.
3. Read carefully through the application forms as there contain different section.
4. Please complete each section of this application form as a Word document then submit a printed version of the completed form, along with the supporting documents to the FDA regional office or the head office for verification and processing.
5. Applicant must make sure to carry both photocopies and originals of all documents are necessary for completing this procedure.
6. Please refer to the fees details in the “Fees” section of this page.
7. Pay the processing fees, upon which the applicant will be issued with a receipt
8. Applicant must submit the complete application form.
9. Upon receiving applicant’s application the FDA will verify and process your application, and if the register or authorized official is satisfied that all the documents are in order, the applicant will be notified of the approval, issued with the permit and given further instruction.
10. Generally, the processing time for this procedure is 1 month.

• Two samples of the product as registered by the FDA.
• Proposed script, example story sketch/story board for radio & TV and artwork for billboards.
• Audio and video if applicant so desire to facilitate the vetting process
• Evidence of Payment of Required Fees
• Authorization letter
• A letter of introduction of Advert Agent from the Applicant, (where applicable)
• GSM telephone No. and email address of the Applicant/Advert Agent.
• Radio (Script)
• Outdoor (Script/Artwork)
• Print (Script/Artwork)
• Online (Script/Artwork/Storyboard)
• SMS (Script)
• Drug Product sample in all pack sizes
• Recorded Advert messages in CD/VCD/DVD on approval of the advertisement material.
• Any other documents that may be requested by the FDA

Note: A copy of the submitted documents shall be endorsed by the FDA and returned to the applicant.

• The advertisement must be for a registered product, unregistered products are not eligible for advertisement.

• The license is valid for one year and renewable thereafter.

• The labelling of all Drug products must comply with the labeling requirements as registered.
• Everyone who wants to advertise drugs or pharmaceuticals Must obtain the approval of the Technical Committee for Drug Control, Ministry of Health before the release of those products and the interest of the health citizens.

Need for the Document

• No person or media shall advertise any product in the print, electronic media including internet or by any means unless such advertisement has been approved by the Authority (FDA) in relation to Sections 59, 113, 114 and 118 of the Public Health Act, 2012, Act 851.
• The aim of these is to maintain the integrity of the product, for their intended purpose and avoid misleading the general public in relation to the Public Health Act.
