Apply In-Person:
- Application form is available through the coordinator in the Self-Help Program Office at the U.S. Embassy and also on the Embassy website. Link
- An applicant has to approach the Ghana embassy and the applicants can get their application form for EASHP.
- Applicant can fill the application out either online, or his/her can fill it and send it directly to the USA embassy in Accra Ghana. Regardless of how his/her do it, his/her are going to follow the steps as indicated on the form. The application is easy to follow all his/her have to do is fill in the blanks.
- Make sure that his/her have all the documents listed in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
- Please refer to the fees details in the “Fees” section of this page.
- The next step is to attach the pro-forma invoices of all items requested and answering each question in as much details as possible.
- Make sure that everything is accurate as requested, so you are able to get the money that his/her requested. Even if his/her project is qualified for the grant but his/her requirements are incomplete, his/her may not get the grant that he/she want.
- Then is to provide a brief cover letter to further explain the proposal, this is so because the screening for possible recipients can be a little rigid, but of course, if his/her have the right project then he/she might find it easy to avail of such funding and get approved.
- Generally, the processing time for this procedure takes 2 months.

- The ambassador’s special self-help program started in 1964 in Togo and quickly spread across the continent as a grass-roots assistance program that allows U.S. embassies respond quickly to local requests for small community-based development projects.

Need for the DocumentEdit
- The Ambassadors Self Help funds are for community based projects designed to improve, education, health, Living standards or income levels. The Self-help program aims to give U.S Embassy support directly to the community groups that are helping themselves. The self-help project provides assistance to small community projects and the funding is not intended to help individuals or business owners nor can it provide assistance to the government entities such as district assemblies.
- The self-help project cannot Fund political parties, Religious organization, Military, or recreational activities, funds cannot be used for administrative expense, transportation, training, scholarships or consumable items, vehicles to finance repair and maintenance. These funds cannot be provided to government agencies.

- The project must be initiated by the community and should benefit the community by increasing income or improving living or social conditions. If the project is designed to generate income, it must be truly community-based and not a for-profit enterprise or sole proprietorship, and the project must have a plan for equitable distribution of any income generated.
- Applicants must be a non-profit organization, NGO, or CBO registered with the Government of Ghana, or a community association formed at least one year before the date of application.
- The proposed project should be a single activity that helps to improve basic economic or social conditions at the community level. Projects should be administered at the community level.
- The project should be sustainable and not require continued support after the one-time contribution from the Special Self-Help Program.
- Substantial community participation is required during the project. Contributions may include labour, materials, equipment, land, buildings, or funding.
- Projects must be within the ability of the community to operate and maintain sustainably.
- All projects must be completed within one calendar year of the grant award date.
- The maximum grant submission allowed is $12,000, converted to Ghana cedi’s at the prevailing exchange rate.
