Procedure

Apply In-Person:

1. The Suitability Health certificate is issued by the authorities in the Ghana Accra Metropolitan Assembly(AMA) Office Contact link
2. The applicant must obtain the application form from the authorities in the AMA office.
3. Here the applicant will be directed to the heath offices to undergo a series of tests before being issued a certificate of good health in Ghana.
4. The application form must be filled with the necessary details.
5. Make sure that the applicant has all the documents that are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
6. Payment of appropriate fees should be made and that can be found under the "Fees" section of this page.
7. The filled application form must be submitted to the authorities in the AMA Office.
8. The following tests are carried during the examinations.
   • Eye test
     
   • Hearing test
   • Inspecting for a contagious bacterial/ viral infection in the blood and stool.
9. Once adequately convinced that the individual has a clean bill of health in Ghana, he/she is issued with the certificate of good health.
10. Generally, the processing time for this procedure is taking up to 2 weeks.

• Urinalysis result – 6 months
• Fecalysis result – 6 months
• 1×1 ID picture – 2 pcs

Eligibility

• All Ghanaian citizens and non-Ghanaian citizens are eligible.

Fees

• The fee per applicant to obtain a medical examination in order to obtain a medical /Health certificate is GHs 1200 payable to the Ghana AMA office.

Validity

• Health certificates are valid for a maximum period of two years for persons older than 18 years.

Need for the Document

• A health certificate is written by a doctor and displays the official results of a physical examination. In case of an emergency or if an applicant requires immediate medical attention, schools and medical staff can refer to applicants' submitted health forms for vital information.

Information which might help

• A person shall not designate a place as a hotel, motel, pub, guest house, restaurant, chop bar or food joint unless the premises have been approved and issued with Suitability Health Certificate by the Assembly for that purpose.
• An absence from employment, missing classes at a university, being considered “fit to fly” or reimbursements for tickets to an event due to being sick or from an injury are all reasons to see a doctor for a medical certificate.
•  A license issued under this Bye-law is subject to such conditions as the Assembly shall impose;
• A license issued shall take effect from the date on which it is granted and shall determine on the 31st day of December in the year in which the license is issued.
•  Every license granted shall be personal to the licensee only and not transferable.
