Procedure

Apply In-Person:

1. To Apply for Reservation of Non-Governmental Organization Name in Ghana, the applicant must go to the non-Profit Organization secretariat. Contact link
2. Organize yourselves in a group to form a Non-governmental organization.
3. Applicants provide 3 business/ organization name for search for availability of a name.
4. Payment of appropriate fees should be made and that can be found under the "Fees" section of this page.
5. Processing fee of GHS 1000 is charge for the name search and reservation.
6. To reserve the available name, the applicant has to obtain an Application for Reservation of Name from the relevant department.
7. Please make sure that the applicant has all the documents that are listed down the “Required Document” section of this page.
8. Fill in the name reservation form as required and submit it for the process of reserving the company name.
9. The name search and reservation takes a half a day to complete.
10. Once a name has been approved, it is reserved for a period of sixty (60) days.

Instructions

• Before an application to change a name is made, the applicant should submit the name of the NGO for approval from the Director of the Non-Governmental Organizations Board. This is done by filling Form and Submitting the filled form to the Registry for conducting the search.
• The registry will search and recommend the reservation.
• Submission of reserved name to the Programmers Manager for approval.
• Pay applicable fees and submit proof of payment together with the application.

Required Information

• Name of the applicant
• Names and addresses of the board of trustees/directors
• Bank account details
• Payment receipt number
• Three proposed names in order of priority.

Need for the Document

• An NGO needs to be registered for it to carry out its objectives in Ghana. For it to be register it needs a name to operate with. Reservation allows the NGO to reserve its name during its registration.
• Any Non-Governmental Organization that wants to register or change its name is supposed to seek from the Non-Governmental Organizations Co-ordination Board approval of the name.
