Procedure

Apply In-Person:

1. Application form for Older person’s Fund is available in the Social Welfare Department contact link
2. An applicant has to approach the social welfare department and applicants get their application form for older person’s grant (OPG).
3. Applicant has to enter all information in the application form.
4. Applicant must make sure to carry all necessary documents that are mentioned under “Required Documents” section of this page.( Both photocopies and originals)
5. Applicant should attach photocopies of documents (whichever is necessary) along with the application form while submitting it at the office.
6. The duly filled form must be attached with the supporting documents and submitted to the social welfare officer.
7. A Fee for this procedure has to be paid as per authority’s request.
8. If all above mentioned procedures were followed properly by the applicant, the fund is issued.
9. If there is no information regarding grant’s is not provided by concerned authorities, applicant can visit the office to know status of their application.
10. The Processing time for this procedure takes 14 days.

Eligibility

• For South African citizens, permanent residents or refugees aged 60 and older with an annual income of less than ZAR65, 106 and assets of no more than ZAR937, 200 per person (or a combined income of ZAR130, 200 and assets of ZAR1.9 million for couples).
• The beneficiaries must not be resident or cared for in a state institution.
  

Fees

A fee for this procedure has to be paid as per authority’s request.

The older persons fund is a long term philanthropic fund which promotes the civic engagement of older people, as a means of working towards making a difference in their communities.

The maximum amount that you will get is R1 890 per month. If you are older than 75 years, you will get R1 910.
