Procedure

Apply In-Person:

1. To Apply for Dog License is available in Ghana ADA East District Assembly link
2. Applicant should approach the AEDA office and the applicant gets their application form for dog license.
3. Applicant has to enter all the information in the application form.
4. Applicant must make sure to carry all the necessary documents that are mentioned under “Required Documents” section of this page. (Both photocopies and originals)
5. This application form will be forwarded by the Director of Veterinary services to the City Ward Veterinary in charge of his/her residential area that are licensed to carry out inspection for dog licensing within the City.
6. Once Form has reached the Ward Vet, they will contact the applicant to make an appointment for inspection.
7. During the inspection they check his/her rabies vaccination books, his/her fencing, dog shelter, water and how he/she dispose of faeces. With a view to animal welfare and neighbourly behaviour.
8. Inspection is done the Inspecting officer will fill out application form in duplicate. One copy will be left with the applicant and the other will go back with the inspecting officer to the Vet Ward Office where it will be signed and forwarded to the County Council Dog Pound for processing.
9. Payment of appropriate fees should be made and that can be found under the "Fees" section of this page.
10. Once the form has been processed, the County Council Dog Pound will contact the applicant to give his/her payment details.
    • Issuing of dog licence GHS. 2,000
    • Issuing of identification, tag licence GHS. 1,000
    • Issuing of a duplicate dog licence GHS. 1,000
    • Issuing of a duplicate identification tag licence GHS. 500
11. Generally, the processing time for this procedure is 2 weeks.

Note: No licence fee shall be paying respect of an application for a licence for any dog kept by a disabled person or used for the purpose of guiding a disabled person.

Eligibility

• All dog Owners.
• Any person whose premise a dog is found or whose premises a dog is known to frequent. Unless that person cans that the dog is not his, and was in his premises without consent.
• The dog in respect should have been inoculated against rabies.

Fees

• Issuing of dog licence GHS. 2,000
• Issuing of identification, tag licence GHS. 1,000
• Issuing of a duplicate dog licence GHS. 1,000
• Issuing of a duplicate identification tag licence GHS. 500

Validity

• Dog license validity is for the lifetime of one dog.

Required Information

• Name of the dog owner
• The postal and physical address of applicant
• Telephone number
• Breed of dog.
• Color of dog, age and sex of dog.
• Vaccination date of dogs aged six years and above.

Need for the Document

• No person shall own or keep any dog within Ghana City County unless that person is in possession of a valid license for the dog.
