Apply In-Person:
- To Apply for Civil Aviation License or Permit in Ghana, the applicant has to contact the nearest Civil Aviation Authority Office in Ghana.Contact link
- Visit the GCAA office with an application letter made in writing and duly signed by a person authorised by the applicant to request for a Civil Aviation License.
- Make sure that you have all the documents listed in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
- Payment of appropriate fees should be made and that can be found under the "Fees" section of this page.
- Applicant must attach all the required documents with the letter of application.
- Then, submit the application package to the Director General at the office in person for further processes.
- Upon receipt of the application and the attached documents, the application will be subjected to an evaluation process in the Licensing Directorate by Licence Examiners/ASI.
- The applicant will be issued a payment slip for processing fees and will be directed to pay at a designated bank.
- The teller is presented to GCAA cash office where an official receipt of payment is obtained and submitted at the Licensing Directorate upon which the application is processed.
- When the document is ready, the applicant is notified (through email or phone number) of the collection of the signed Licence which will be released upon presentation of an identification or letter of authority from the company.
- If the application is not satisfactory, a Letter of Denial is written to the applicant within 24hours informing the applicant reasons for such denial and advising the applicant on the outstanding documents to meet his or her request.
- Further processing will depend on when the applicant submits the outstanding documents.
- The processing time for this procedure takes 7 days.

- Application form
- Documents relating to proof of age date of birth, full name and nationality. (Copies of these documents must be legible and will be certified by licensing staff as true copies of the original. Where a document is printed in a language other than English, the applicant must provide a notarized translation).
- Two recent photographs (approximately 2 cm by 2.5cm) taken from the same negative (full face).
- A valid Medical Certificate Class 1
- An original Identification Card or Passport and a copy of the same
- Certified copies of the last 2 pages of the personal logbook. These pages show the latest flying experience certified by the pilot’s supervisor, who will certify the relevant logbook entries by endorsing his signature and license number.
- Payment receipt of the prescribed fees
- Any other additional documents requested for be the GCAA.

Applicants should meet the following criteria are eligible:
AEROPLANE
- Applicant must be at least 18 years of age.
- 200 hours Total Time.
- 100 hours as Pilot-In-Command.
- Minimum of 20 hours solo cross country.
- 10 Hours Instrument instruction times of which not more than 5 hours may be instrument ground time.
- 5 hours of night flight time including 5 take-offs and 5 landings.
HELICOPTER
- Applicant must be at least 18 years of age.
- 150 hours Total Time.
- 35 Hours as Pilot-In-Command.
- Minimum of 10 hours solo cross country.
- 10 Hours Instrument instruction times of which not more than 5 hours may be instrument ground time.
- 5 hours of night flight time including 5take-offs and 5 landings.
