Procedure

Apply In-Person:

1. To Request for Alteration of Change the Name of Road, the applicant must visit the Fiji Roads Authority. Contact Link
2. The application form titled “Request for the formal approval of a road name” must be obtained from the authorities in the Fiji Roads Authority office.
3. Make sure that you have all the documents that are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
4. The acceptable reasons to Alter the Road Name includes:
   • To correct the spelling.
   • To eliminate duplication in spelling or sound.
   • To prevent confusion arising from major changes to road layout.
   • To make geographical corrections.
   • To assign different names to separate ends of a road with a permanently impassable section somewhere along the length.
5. The altered name proposed will be consulted with few of the people such as Relatives of named people, Ministry of iTaukei Affairs, etc.
6. The application will be verified according to the Road Naming Policy and Guidelines.
7. If the alteration name proposal matches the criteria of Naming policy, the application will be approved. If not, it will be rejected.
8. The final approval of the altered name will be decided by the CEO of Fiji Road’s Authority.
9. The fee for the application will be intimated to the applicant while applying.
10. The processing time will be intimated by the authorities in the Fiji Roads Authority Office to the applicant while applying.

Required Documents

• Proposed new road name, including preferred suffix.
• A location map highlighting the road.
• A brief explanation demonstrating the background to the names, and how they comply with the requirements of the Road Naming Policy.
• If proposing to alter an existing road name, include a justification detailing the benefits to the community for the proposed change.

Any individual who resides in Fiji is eligible to submit the alteration of road name in Fiji.

Fees

The fee details for the application will be intimated to the applicant while applying.
