Procedure

Apply In Person:

1. No Nurse shall be allowed to practice or continue to practice in any year except such a Nurse has paid Licensing fees as prescribed by the Ethiopian Food and Drug Authority (EFDA), such application should be submitted on time before the lapse of the current license, to allow enough time for the renewal due process to be completed. 2. The licensee should collect all relevant application forms to be completed for renewing the License to Practice Nursing with respect to the requirement from the relevant department.
3. Carefully complete the forms with appropriate information under relevant sections. But don’t forget to attest the forms with your signature once completed.
4. Once completed, attach all the documents listed in the “Required Documents” section, before submitting the file for processing and consideration to the council registry office.
5. Please note; the application shall also be accompanied by all applicable fees and should be deposited as prescribed and proof of payment shared with the EFDA Registry office.
6. Upon receipt of the application, the registrar will check for discrepancies or ineligibility in the application documents. If a discrepancy that cannot be immediately corrected exists in any of the documents, the application and all the submitted documents will be returned to the applicant and should not be re-submitted until the discrepancy has been rectified and corrected.
7. The application and other documents will be forwarded for examination and verification process by the officials which will determine if the application will be approved or denied.
8. Once the verification and validation processes are over and if the application is found sufficient, it will be approved and the officials will proceed to take the required steps to issue the renewed license.
9. When the document is ready to be collected, the applicant will receive a notification from the office through email or phone call regarding the collection.
10. One is required to bring proof of identification and surrender the expired license before being issued the renewed license.

• Completed Licensing form.
• Two (2) recent identical colored passport photographs with white backgrounds.
• Expired license.
• Photocopies of certificates of registration.
• Photocopy of certificate of attendance for Mandatory Continuing Professional Development Programme (MCPDP).
• Original evidence of Payment of all applicable fees.
• Any other additional supporting documentation as requested by the Authority.

Eligibility

• The individual should be registered with the Ethiopian Food and Drug Authority (EFDA) and a holder of a practicing license.
• To be of good reputation and commendable conduct.
• To have never been sentenced in a felony or misdemeanor (for a custodial penalty in a crime involving moral turpitude or breach of trust, unless rehabilitated in either case). In short,  not to have a criminal record.

Validity

• The practicing license expiry date is after every 1 year and shall be subjected to renewal and payment of an annual practice fee as may be prescribed by the Ethiopian Food and Drug Authority (EFDA), this should be submitted on time before the lapse of the current license, to allow enough time for the renewal due process to be completed.
