Procedure

Apply In-Person:

1. Application for renewal of authorization letter to engage in Mobile phone money services in Ethiopia is available in National Bank of Ethiopia contact link
2. Applicant must enter all necessary information requested in the application form.
3. Documents that are needed for completing application procedure are listed under “Required Documents” section of this page.
4. Applicant must carry both photocopies and originals of all those documents while applying for this procedure.
5. Attach photocopies of documents along with the application form (whichever is necessary).
6. The applicant should attach the photocopies along with applicant form.
7. Fee for this procedure has to be paid as per authority’s request.
8. If all necessary information is provided along with the needed documents, applicant can get their letter of authorization within a week.
   

Renewal

1. Upon assessment and fulfilment of all the requirements; Where the Central Bank is satisfied that the applicant has met all the application requirements, the Bank shall within seven days of receipt of authorization fees, issue an authorization permitting the applicant to continue business of payment services.
2. Where the Bank rejects an application for renewal, the Bank shall communicate the reasons for its decision to the applicant within seven days.
3. The Bank may, where the Bank rejects an application impose conditions to be complied with by the applicant before the applicant can re-submit the application for consideration.
4. The Bank may approve an application which has previously been rejected, if the Bank is satisfied that the applicant has complied with all conditions imposed.
