Procedure

Apply In-Person:

1. Application form for obtaining a voter’s card is available in the National Electoral Board of Ethiopia contact link
2. Applicant has to fill-in all the necessary details in the application form.
3. Applicant must make sure to carry documents that are listed under “Required Documents” section of this page (Both photocopies and originals).
4. Applicant has to attach photocopies of documents (whichever is necessary) along with the application form.
5. Voter registration procedure is free of charge.
6. If all the procedures mentioned above are followed properly, applicant can get their voter’s card within a day.

Eligibility

Any Ethiopian 18 years and above is eligible to register and participate in the election exercise.

Voter registration is free of charge.

Instructions

• You can only participate in the election, if you are a registered voter
• You can register as a voter at any designated voter registration within the country
• It is your responsibility of you as a voter to cross check the register and inform the registrar officer of any corrections you wish on your particulars
• Once you have registered as a voter you have to participate in the General election for presidential, parliamentary and local authorities starting from the date of issuance of the same present the plate to the appropriate organ for exchange with the correct plate.

Need for the Document

• Registration process is carried out by Ethiopia National Electoral Board. You can only participate in elections if you are a registered voter. It is your right and duty as a responsible citizen to elect your leaders and only registered persons are allowed by law to participate in elections in Ethiopia.
• Once a person has been entered into the voters register after registering then that person is deemed to be a legally registered Voter and can participate in elections.
