Apply In-Person:

  1. To Invest in Leather and Leather Product Sector, the applicant has to approach the Ethiopian Investment Commission link or the applicant can approach Ministry of Trade and Industry link
  2. The applicant has to get the application form from the respective officer.
  3. The applicant has to fill-in all the necessary details in the form.
  4. Make sure that the applicant has to give the necessary all documents (photocopies and originals) mentioned in “Required Documents” in the section of this page.
  5. Applicant should attach the photocopies of the necessary documents (whichever is necessary) along with the application form while submitting.
  6. Submit the application form to the relevant authority. The authority will review the application.
  7. After Submitting the Service Request Application, the applicant will receive a confirmation email indicating receipt of the application by the staff that will handle the case. The staff who will handle the case will contact the applicant for further information regarding your application.

  • Authenticated by the concerned notary office and Ethiopian Embassy in the foreign country, and
  • Authenticated and registered by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia.

Minimum Capital Requirements

  • For wholly foreign-owned company, the minimum capital requirement is 200,000 USD
  • For joint venture company, the minimum capital requirement is 150,000 USD

  • The manufacturing of leather and leather products is one of the areas which is given priority. In this regard the main objectives are to expand production of locally produced products, in terms of both variety and quality, as substitutes for imported leather products, increase foreign exchange earnings, and strengthen the technological capability of the Industry.

  • The Ethiopian leather industry encompasses three major industrial sub-sectors or components; namely, tanneries processing and producing the leather, footwear manufacturers (shoe producing), and leather goods and garments manufacturers. The tanning industry in Ethiopia produces and exports all types of finished leather from hides, sheep skins and goat skins.
