Egypt - ReExportation of Household Goods and Personal Effects

Individuals can re-export their personal effects and used household items out of Egypt after clearing the country's Duty tax. Send a complete list of items and a list of historical items Supplemental Form along with three sets of photos of each item to your Destination Agent.


Step I - Fill the Declaration Form

The first thing is to apply and fill a declaration form at customs for accompanying goods at the point of entry into Egypt. Then attach a list of all goods that are declared as free entry goods and indicate on the list that these are "household effects".

Then provide a copy of completed inventory of re-exported goods to the director general of customs,indicating that the exported goods are for personal effect.

You must also fill and submit a "Custom service Port Form" in order to export unaccompanied household effects out of Egypt, although not permanently. No form is needed if you plan to travel along with your goods, however, a manifest listing the items contained in your vehicle is necessary to present to the officer at the Port of Entry.

A Declaration that carries any restricted goods will require a permit or approval from the competent authority in Egypt.

Step II - Complete a Personal Effects Statement form

You should also submit a list of the household items which is not on the declaration form and these must be Personal Effects that are taxed at the point of entry.

This form must be completed by the Yourself (owner) ; however, you can nominate a representative such as a freight forwarder, customs broker, friend or relative to act on your behalf. This form is also available at any Egyptian Tax Authority and Border Point of entry, from your customs broker, or on the ETA website. The form is available in a number of foreign languages, however must be completed in English or Arabic.

Step III - Attach the following documents

  • Re-exportation letter from employer or governmental agency that supplied a letter to request importation of goods into Egypt on a temporary basis.
  • Letter must list the date employment ends and the date of re-exportation.
  • Incoming Customs Shehad (Certificate) number & date originaland copy
  • Authorization letter for customs for re-exportation


In order to qualify, you need to meet the following requirements.

  • Goods must be in used condition
  • Owner of Declaration and Goods must be the same as given in the documents
  • Quantity must be reasonable

For the Customs Clearance of any goods, whether they are exempted from Customs Duties and Taxes or not, a detailed Customs Declaration must be submitted to the customs. The Declaration can be submitted by an Importer/Exporter or his authorized Representative or a Customs Broker.

Step IV - Pay the necessary tax

  • You can now pay for all items that are not tax free and obtain a receipt.

Step V issue of port clearance certificate

  • After the payment the port Authority will issue you a clearance certificate for both household effects and items that are taxed.

EligibilityEdit

  • To be eligible to Re-export Household items you must be leaving Egypt to another foreign country and the items must be your personal property that you owned and used whilst staying in Egypt for at least 12 months before departing Egypt.
  • All re-exported household goods are subject to export Tax and other duties and Good Service Tax assessment.
  • You Must have been a private nationalist in Egypt or Foreigner posted in Egypt to work for more than 12 months intending to leave Egypt for another country.

To be eligible to re-export Household items you must be a migrant who is Leaving Egypt to take up permanent residence in another country.

Need for the DocumentEdit

If items that were originally imported into Egypt are missing from a re-exportation shipment, the shipper must pay duties, even if the items are broken.

The following items are restricted for exportation in Egypt.
  • Books and paintings are subject to inspection by the Ministry of Culture prior to clearance.
  • New clothing items will be assessed at a very high flat tax per item. Clothing items must be obviously used to avoid this tax.
  • Videotapes, computer discs, cassettes, records, CDs, printers, copiers,scanners, and satellite receivers will be inspected by the Censorship
  • Department prior to clearance.
  • These items may be confiscated if deemed inappropriate for religious, political, etc.reasons.
  • A copy of the manual for printers, scanners, copiers & satellite receivers should be sent in advance with shipping documents.
  • Printers and scanners must be approved by the Ministry of Interior.
  • Satellite receivers must be approved by the Ministry of Telecommunications.
  • Plants, foodstuffs, cosmetics,medications and soap are restricted
