Apply In person

  1. To Obtain Certificate of No Impediment to Marriage (Single Status Certificate) in person, the applicant has to approach any embassy office in Egypt Link
  2. Also refer to the addresses mentioned in the “Office Locations & Contacts” section of this procedure.
  3. Then, the applicant must obtain the application form from U.S. Embassy office.
  4. Applicant should read carefully in the application form, after all details must be filled in the application form.
  5. Documents that are needed for this procedure are mentioned under “Required Documents” section of this page.
  6. Payment of appropriate fees should be made and that can be found under the "Fees" section of this page.
  7. Submit the completed forms along with the supporting documents at the respective office for verification and processing.
  8. This application will be processed and information will be verified by the Cairo Embassy office.
  9. If the verification is successful, the notification will be sent to the applicant.
  10. After getting the notification from concerned authorities, applicant can visit the office to collect their certificate.
  11. If there is no information regarding the application, then, the applicant can visit the office to know status of the application.
  12. Generally, the processing time for this procedure is 3 months.

  • Application form
  • Two (2) photocopies of the applicant’s current passport-pages 30-32 & the Bio-Data page (certified by a notary public).
  • Two (2) photocopies of birth certificate (certified by a notary public).
  • Two (2) photocopies of the Fiancée’s (spouse to be) passport (certified by a notary public).
  • Application fee of paid by Money Order or bank cheque payable to the High Commission;( if applying from abroad)
  • If were previously married, two photocopies of A Divorce Decree Absolute or the late spouse’s Death Certificate for divorced or widowed (certified by a notary public). These must be in English & if not, a translation provided.
  • A self-addressed registered post or express platinum post return envelope. (if applying from abroad)

EligibilityEdit

  • Egyptian living abroad can approach the Egypt mission abroad in the country in which they are living in, to make the application of a certificate of no impediment to marriage.
  • Certificates of No Impediment are issued to EGYPT CITIZENS wishing to have their marriages, either to Egypt citizens or foreigners (non-Egyptians) performed abroad.
  • Every Egyptian wishing to marry abroad has to apply for a Certificate of No Impediment to Marriage from the nearest Egypt Mission.



FeesEdit

  • Fees payable: EGP. 5,000.



ValidityEdit

  • The certificate is valid for six months.
  • The certificate loses its validity when the holder gets married.

  • The processing time for a certificate is approximately one month or approximately 3 months if applying from abroad.

  • The Certificate conforms that the applicant is SINGLE and has the capacity to enter into marriage.



Information which might helpEdit

The standard Single Status Certificate or Certificate of No Impediment may be insufficient on its own to allow a marriage to take place in a foreign country. Applicant may be required by the foreign authorities to comply with the following, so please ensure that you allow sufficient time for processing.

  • Certificates may need to be translated.
  • Certificates may need to be endorsed or exchanged for a locally acceptable version issued by your Embassy or Consulate in the country where you will marry.
  • Certificates may need to be legalized
  • Certificates may require that witnesses swear an Affidavit stating that you are free to marry and that this is appended.


Other uses of the Document/CertificateEdit

  • In Egypt the applicant is required to make such a declaration (or its equivalent) before a marriage license can be issued.
