Procedure

Apply In person

1. To convert a foreign Driver License to Egyptian Driver License in person, the applicant has to approach the ministry of Transport in Egypt Location link
2. Also refer to the addresses mentioned in the “Office Locations & Contacts” section of this procedure.
3. Applicant should go to the Embassy with their driving license (both original and photocopies) and get a letter from them explaining that the driving license the applicant has is equivalent to that of the Ethiopian driving license.
4. Also make sure that the letter also explains about the grade level of applicant license equivalent to the Ethiopian driving license and weight of the vehicle that the applicant can drive.
5. After obtaining a letter from the Embassy, the applicant has to go to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and submit the letter along with all the related documents that are stamped from the Embassy.
6. Applicant should make sure to carry all the documents that are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page (Both photocopies and Originals).
7. Applicant must attach the photocopies of the documents (whichever is necessary) along with the application form.
8. Payment of appropriate fees should be made and that can be found under the "Fees" section of this page.
9. They would verify all the documents that the applicanthas submitted and stamp in couple of documents that have been submitted by the applicant.
10. After this the applicant would have to take the documents to the Institute for Training and Testing drivers and mechanics where they would provide with a driver license.
11. If the applicant doesn’t get any information regarding their license within a month, then they can visit the office once again to know about the details of the application.
12. The Processing time for this procedure is 3 days.
