Apply In-Person:
- To apply for a Refugee Permit in Egypt, the applicant must approach UNHCR (The UN Refugee Agency) Contact link
- The applicant must fill up the required application form that is available for free at UNHCR.
- The applicant must submit the required documents for this procedure.
- Refer to the “Required Documents” section of this procedure to learn more.
- Processing fee is free of charge. Issuance fee is free of charge. Applications for renewal of permits should be done three months prior to expiry date.
- Once he/she submits the applicant completed Registration Form to UNHCR, the applicant will be provided with an appointment for a registration interview.
- On the registration date, he/she must bring your original identification documents such as passports, identity cards, and all documents relevant to the application. All original documents provide will be photocopied and returned back to you at the end of the registration interview. Please ensure that 27 take all the original documents prior to the departure from the UNHCR office.
- If the application is approved, the applicant shall receive the certificate within the stipulated processing period on their email address.
- At the end of the Registration interview, applicant and there family members will be photographed and fingerprinted. This is an important step for identification purposes. After being photographed, the applicant will be provided with UNHCR documentation.
- After completing your Registration interview, the applicant will be issued with UNHCR documentation serving as evidence that you have sought refugee status and that the applicant application is being considered by UNHCR.
- Once you receive his/her card from UNHCR, the applicant is obliged to obtain a legal residence permit (sticker) in order to legalize he/she stay as an asylum-seeker or refugee in Egypt. This procedure must be followed, under Egyptian laws and regulations, with the Government of Egypt.
- The process takes 2 months.

- Photocopy of identification documents (passport, ID cards and any other relevant documents)
- Two copies of detailed and signed cover letter from the employer / organization, addressed to the Director of Immigration Services
- Copy of a valid national passport
- Two(2) recent passport size colored photos (for both new and renewal)
- Current Immigration status if in the country
- Recognition letters from UNHCR and Department of Refugee Affairs.
- Recommendation letter from the Department of Refugee Affairs

- The applicant should have been granted refugee status in Egypt in accordance with the refugee law of Egypt and any spouse of such a refugee who intends to take up employment or engage in a specific occupation, trade, business or profession.

Need for the DocumentEdit
- It is an offence for a person to knowingly mislead an Immigration Officer ( section 53 (1)(a) of Egypt Citizenship and Immigration Act, (2011)
- Incomplete applications shall not be accepted.
- Additional documents may be requested in addition to the listed.
- Where the holder of a work permit ceases to engage in the employment in respect of which the work permit was issued, the employer specified in the work permit shall, within fifteen days from the date of such cessation, report, in writing to the director that the holder has ceased to engage in such employment. Any employer who contravenes this regulation commits an offence.

- Incomplete applications will not be accepted.
- Engaging in any form of business or employment without a requisite permit or pass is an offence.
- The applicant must be present in person when the application is presented at the immigration headquarters or regional offices for registration.
- Giving false or misleading information is an offence punishable by law
- Any person who contravenes any provision or requirement of an order issued to a foreign national commits an offence and is liable to a fine, imprisonment or both
