Procedure

Apply In-Person:

1. To request for change of sex or gender identifier in person, the applicant has to visit the office of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada.
2. The address can be found in the following Contact link
3. The applicant has to visit the office and obtain a Request for a Change of Sex or Gender Identifier [IRM 0002] form from the relevant department. Or click here to download Application form
4. While visiting the office, the applicants should carry the documents listed in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
5. The applicant has to complete the application with required details in respective fields under each section.
6. After that, the applicant should attach the required documents with the completed form and submit it to the relevant official with the required documents.
7. On submission of the application, the applicant should pay the required fees for the process through any of the available payment modes. Fees details can be obtained from the office.
8. Then, the submitted application and attached documents will be assessed and verified.
9. Upon completion of the assessment and verification, the requested will be done and the applicant will be intimated through phone or email regarding the change.

Eligibility

• Any person in Canada, who needs to change their sex or gender identifier on their Work permit, Study permit, Permanent Resident Card or visa, can apply.
• Any person in Canada, who needs to change their sex or gender identifier on their Refugee status or Citizenship application, can also apply.
• Any person, who needs to change their sex or gender identifier on their Canadian passport or travel document, can apply.

Fees

• Fees details can be obtained from the office.

Validity

• This change is valid until the applicant needs to change it again.
