Apply In-Person

  • To apply for a change of name in British Columbia, the applicant will need to visit the nearest Service BC centre. Here is the address: link.
  • The applicant will be given a form, fill this in and make sure all details are filled in correctly, the applicant will receive different forms depending on whether they are an adult or a child and want to change their name to a single name.

  • Carry all supporting documents. The applicant can get further information from the registry agent or check under the “Documents to Use” section of this page.
  • Submit the completed application form along with supporting documents to the office.
  • Once all documents have been submitted to the agent, they will forward them for further processing.
  • Once submitted and approved, the applicant will receive a certificate with their changed name.

  • To apply for a change of name in British Columbia, the applicant can mail the application form along with supporting documents to the address mentioned under the “Office locations and contacts” section of this page.

EligibilityEdit

  • The applicant must be 19 years of age or older but there are certain exceptions, these are:
  • If the applicant is younger than 19 but is the parent of a child, then they may apply for a change of name for themselves and their child without the consent of the applicant’s parents.
  • The applicant can change their name or the name of their child who is younger than 18.
  • The applicant is a resident of British Columbia.
  • The applicant has lived in British Columbia for 3 months consecutively.


FeesEdit

  • Adult (19 years of age or older) without dependent child: 137$
  • Adult (19 years of age or older) with dependent child (18 years old or younger): 137$ + 27$ per child

The document does not need to be renewed as it is valid forever.

Processing TimeEdit
