Apply In-Person

  1. The request for sub-division of land shall be made to the District or Sub-District Council Office. Botswana District or Sub-District Council Office Location Contact Details
  2. Interested applicants are required to collect and complete either the Common law land rights application form or Application for customary land rights form depending on the type of application being filed, forms are available at all Botswana District or Sub-District Council Office or directly download it using this link-Common law land rights application form OR Application for customary land rights form
  3. The completed application form accompanied by all the supporting documentation as listed under the “Required Documents” section of this page should be submitted to the District or Sub-District Council Office nearest to where the land is located.
  4. Upon receipt of the application, the receiving officers will check for discrepancies or ineligibility in the application documents. If a discrepancy that cannot be immediately corrected exists in any of the documents, the application and all the submitted documents will be returned to the applicant and should not be re-submitted until the discrepancy has been rectified.
  5. No fee is associated with the service unless there is the desire to convert to a common-law lease whereat the costs are outlined under conversions.
  6. The District or Sub-District Council office may request additional information relevant to the application. In such a case, the information must be submitted within the stipulated time from the date of notification. Where the applicant fails to submit the required information, the application shall be rejected.
  7. After the document evaluation phase has been completed satisfactorily which is in one (1) month, the District or Sub-District Council office shall prepare the approval letter to be collected by the applicant.
  8. The applicant should submit the approval letter to the Land Board or Sub Land Board Office for issuance of the new title. Botswana Land Board or Sub Land Board Office Location Contact Details
