- All members of the public are encouraged to report to the police any crime or incident. If you have been the victim of crime, have witnessed a crime, or would simply like to tell police that a crime has been committed. Botswana Police Service (BPS)contact details
- One can pass on information anonymously or choose to disclose their identity, there are several ways to do it;
- Emergency Toll-Free number Dial 999 (for police)
- Contact the nearest police station in person or stop a police officer on patrol.
- Dial the landline for your local police station.
- Post the crime or incident on the police social medial page.
- The following information should be provided when reporting the crime:
- Nature of the incident/crime
- Time of incident occurred
- Location (i.e. plot number, street, H/No, or any nearest landmark)
- Identity of the suspect or physical description of the suspect
- Any weapons used
- Other witnesses where possible
- Upon receiving the report, police officers will be dispatched to the location of the incident within a few minutes to investigate the report, by questioning individuals who are victims of the crime and witnesses of the incident and record their accounts for further investigation, for the apprehension of the suspects.
- If the alleged perpetrators are still present at the scene, there will be arrested to be arraigned to the court of a hearing and judgment after the completion of the police investigation on the matter.

The police standards respond time after receiving a report are:
- 16 minutes in urban areas.
- 60 minutes in other areas.
