Procedure

Apply In Person

1. The application to renew a Veterinary Technician (Veterinary Para-Professional) Practice Licence shall be made to the  Botswana Health Professions Council (BHPC) within the renewal period, i.e from 1st April to 30th June of any given financial year. 2. Applicants are required to collect and complete the Botswana Health Professions Council Renewal Form, obtainable at any of the BHPC offices or download it via the MoH Website,(Form is located under the Botswana Health Professions Council section) or directly download it using this link Botswana Health Professions Council Renewal Form
3. The completed form attached to the supporting documentation as listed under the “Required Documents” section of this page should be submitted to the BHPC office for consideration.
4. On submission of the application file, the BHPC office will check for discrepancies or ineligibility in the application documents. If a discrepancy that cannot be immediately corrected exists in any of the documents, the application and all the submitted documents will be returned to the applicant and should not be re-submitted until the discrepancy has been rectified.
5. If the receiving officer is satisfied that all the requirements have been met for the application for the license, the applicant is advised to pay the prescribed license fee as per the authority's preferable mode of payment.
6. The application will only be registered for processing and consideration only upon making payment of the applicable fee, the applicant is then issued with a BHPC payment receipt and an acknowledgement slip as a proof of submission of the application for inquiry referencing if the need arises.
7. After a successful evaluation phase, when all regulatory requirements for approval of the license are satisfactorily met, the BHPC registrar shall prepare the renewed license that shall be valid for one year, which indicates the approval scope and limitations.
8. A notice of the decision (Approval, Deferral, or Rejection) for the application will be communicated to the applicant by phone or mail.
9. Proceed to the BHPC license office and present the acknowledgement letter and identity document and the proof of payment of the license fee to be validated by the licensing office.
10. The applicant will be made to sign on the signature pad/book and will be issued with the printed renewed license.

Required Documents

• A duly completed Botswana Health Professions Council Renewal Form
• Copy of current license
• Copy of valid BHPC identity card (Blue Card)
• Certified copy of passport for non-citizens or Omang for citizens.
• Four passport size photographs [there has to be an endorsement for true likeness]
• Certified evidence of change of name or surname [if applicable].
• Certified copy of residence permit, or work permit or waiver (if applicable)
• Any other supporting documentation as requested by the BHPC.

Notes:

• All documents must be in English.
• Every document must be certified by the Commissioner of Oath.

Eligibility

• Any registered Veterinary Technician (Veterinary Para-Professional) that needs to renew their practice license is eligible to apply.

Fees

• Please consult with the BHPC office.

Validity

• The validity of the practice license is one year from the date of issue and it shall remain valid for that specified period unless revoked, cancelled, or suspended by the authority.
• The license renewal period is from 1st April to 30th June of any given financial year.

NOTES:

• The renewal period for the practice license is from 1st April to 30th June of any given financial year. The validity of the Registration Certificate is subject to the holder being up to date on the renewal fees. The Council may remove the applicant name from its register if he/she fails to pay any fee provided for in the BHP Act within a period of six months from the date when it was due.
• Applicants that have acquired an additional qualification or have changed their surname in the past twelve months please contact the office to collect and complete the relevant form.

Need for the Document

• All registered health professionals with the BHPC are required to renew their practice license to be able to practice medicine in Botswana.
• It is illegal to employ a health professional who is not registered with BHPC or who does not have a valid practicing certificate as stipulated by the Health Professions Act (Cap 61.02).
