Apply In-Person

  1. Within 30 days of receiving the rejection letter, applicant aggrieved by the decisions of Regional Immigration Selection Boards (RISB), should visit the nearest Regional/District Department of Labour and Social Security office to file the appeal for the work permit, (contact details are listed under “Office Locations & Contacts” section of this page).
  2. Express your interest to the Regional/District department’s unit responsible attending officer, and submit the letter of appeal, attach to the supporting documentation as mentioned under the “Required Documents” section of this page.
  3. The receiving officer will verify if all the required documents and information have been provided, and if the application is compliant; if everything is in order, the application file will be registered, upon paying the prescribed fee, as mentioned under the “FEE” section of this page.
  4. Applicants will then be issued with an acknowledgment letter, containing details of the application.
  5. The regional labour office will then forward the application file to the Ministry of Employment, Labour Productivity, and Skills Development, Department of Labour and Social Security headquarter office for processing.
  6. Upon receipt of the application file, the ministry office will register the appeal, as to when the file was received.
  7. The file will then be vetted and assess based on the information and documents that have been provided by a committee formed by the ministry of labour and send its recommendation to the minister for final decision making.
  8. If the appeal is approved by the minister, the ministry of labour headquarters office will inform the regional labour office of the decision, whom will then draw up the work permit, to be issued to the applicant against his/her passport, acknowledgment slip and upon payment of the required work permit fee as mentioned under the “FEE” section of this page.
  9. If the appeal is not approved a rejected letter will be issued to the applicant at the regional labour office.

  • Foreigners aggrieved by the decisions of Regional Immigration Selection Boards (RISB) not to approve their work permit application are eligible to re-apply



FeesEdit

  • The processing fee for re-applying/appeal the work permit application is BWP 500.00


Work permit fee

  • Work Permit fee - BWP 1,500.00
  • Work Permit renewal fee - BWP 1,500.00
  • Work Permit Replacement/ Duplicate fee - BWP 1,500.00
  • Late renewal submission fee - BWP 500.00 + BWP 20.00 each day after the expiry of permits

Need for the DocumentEdit

  • Foreigners whose application for a work permit has been rejected by the Regional Immigration Selection Boards (RISB) may appeal/re-apply to the Minister of Employment, Labour Productivity, and Skills Development within thirty (30) days of the rejection. The minister's decision is final.
  • A work permit is an official document issued to non-citizens permitting them to work in Botswana for a reward or to invest in Botswana for profit.
