Procedure

1. To apply for a new power connection you will need to complete an application form. The form can be obtained from any BPC office nearest to you, or you may download one online - link.
2. The completed forms with a sketch plan or layout showing the location of the premises to be electrified may be submitted to any BPC office, regardless of the location of the premises where power is required. Make sure that you bring all other required documents wen you visit a BPC office.
3. Upon receipt of your signed application, BPC will send you an acknowledgement letter with your Business Partner (BP) number.
4. From the date that you have submitted your application, you will within 21 days then be sent a Quotation/Proforma Invoice which details the fees to be paid and payment terms. The Quotation remains valid for 30 days/ 1 month from the date of issue.
5. Pay the connection fee, check the list below for documents you will need to present when making payment. Security Deposit is paid upfront for conventional meter supply.
6. Once BPC receives your payment, they will tried to provide the connection. It may take 21 days for a direct service connection and 90 days where an element of capital work is involved.
7. Wiring of the customers installation is the customers responsibility; however, care should be taken to liaise with BPC during the installation wiring process.
8. For villages still using conventional meters, provision should be made for an approved meter box. A roof entry box and a shackle are needed where an overhead service is required.
9. When BPC has installed the service and the customer is ready to take supply, an appointment must be made with the BPCs Metering and Inspection Department for testing of the installation by the customers electrician for testing. The first test will be carried out at no charge.
10. BPC requires the presence of the person who wired the premises during the test.
11. When the installation passes the inspection test, a certificate will be issued. If the customer has paid Security deposit the power will be left on. When the installation fails the inspection, a re-inspection appointment should be made.

New Installations:

• Completed application form
• Where an application is made by letter, the customers full details as well as those of the installation to be supplied, complete with the size of supply required, should be given.
• If a tenant applies for power, the landlords written consent should be provided.
• When making payment for new connections the following should be provided:
  • A valid quotation
  • Identity card or Passport for non citizens
  • Title Deeds /Land Board Certificate / Lease Agreement
  • Occupational Letter (Institutional Houses) Title to the property to be electrified is required in all cases.
