Apply In Person

  1. To apply for a Permit or License to Purchase Acquire and Possess Explosives, applicants should proceed to the Inspectorate Division of the Department of Mines, Ministry of Minerals, and Energy & Water Resources Gaborone/Francistown with all the necessary documentation. (Contact details listed below).
  2. Applicants are required to complete the application for permit purchase, acquire and possess explosives Application form. Forms are available for free at the Enquiries Desk at any of the offices of the Department of Mines or directly download it using this form; Link
  3. Submit the duly completed application forms along with the relevant attachments (mentioned below under the ‘Required Documents’ section) to be verified by the attending officer.
  4. The officer will then verify, if all the necessary information and documents have been provided and that the applications comply with the selection criteria, if everything is in order the application file will be registered and recorded and you will be issued with an acknowledgment letter containing details of the application.
  5. The completed application file is then submitted to the assistant Inspector of Explosives, where the application file is reviewed and a consideration made which is within 5 working days.
  6. The assistant Inspector of Explosives shall not issue and endorse the issuing of the permit, unless he is satisfied that the applicant has attended such approved course of instruction relating to the handling, use, and storage of explosives as may be directed by the Chief Inspector of Explosives.
  7. If approved the Permit or License to Purchase Acquire and Possess Explosives shall be drawn up in Form B, Signed and stamped by the Chief Inspector of Explosives, and made available for withdrawal by the applicant, upon payment of the required license fee and against the acknowledgment letter, and identity document.

  • Copies of company certificate of incorporation and trading licenses including share certificate from the Companies and Intellectual Property Authority (CIPA).
  • A letter of appointment is required for the responsible person who should be a blasting license holder.
  • Permit to Import and Possess Explosives form.
  • Copies of company certificate of incorporation.
  • Trading licenses.
  • A letter of appointment indicating responsible blasting license holder (BLH).
  • A certified copy of a valid national identity for the responsible BLH or holder.
