Apply In-Person

  1. To apply for an Explosive import permit or license, applicants should proceed to the Inspectorate Division of the Department of Mines, Ministry of Minerals, and Energy & Water Resources Gaborone/Francistown with all the necessary documentation. (Contact details listed below).
  2. Applicants are required to complete the Explosive import permit or licence Application Form {A}, forms are available for free at the Enquiries Desk at any of the offices of the Department of Mines.
  3. Submit the duly completed application forms along with the relevant attachments (mentioned below under the ‘Required Documents’ section) to be verified by the attending officer.
  4. The officer will then verify, if all the necessary information and documents have been provided and that the applications comply with the selection criteria, if everything is in order the application file will be registered and recorded and you will be issued with an acknowledgment letter containing details of the application.
  5. The completed application file is then submitted to the chief Inspector of Explosives, where the application file is reviewed and a consideration made which is within 2 working days.
  6. If approved the Explosive import permit or licence shall be drawn up in Form B, Signed and stamped by the Chief Inspector of Explosives, and made available for withdrawal by the applicant against the acknowledgment letter, and identity document.
  7. The Chief Inspector of Explosives shall notify the Officer-in-Charge of the Central Explosives Registry of all permits issued by him.

Note

  • The importation of explosives intended or adapted for military use shall be authorized only upon the written authority of the Minister

Need for the DocumentEdit

  • No person shall import into Botswana any explosives other than fireworks imported from the Republic of South Africa, Namibia, Zimbabwe or Zambia unless at the time of importation or prior thereto, he has obtained an import explosive permit in Form B.
