Apply In-Person

  1. To become Professional Guides in Botswana one requires to obtain a professional Travel Agent License or Permit from the Department of Wildlife and National Parks; which is under the Ministry of Environment, Natural Resources Conservation, and Tourism (contact details are listed under “Office Locations & Contacts” section of this page).
  2. Upon a circulated advertisement, for the registration of a professional Travel Agent process opening by the Department of Wildlife and National Parks, interest applicants are required to respond during this time frame by submitting their application letter together with supporting documentation as mentioned under the “Required Documents” section of this page, either in person or by surface mail in a sealed manila envelope to the department’s head office.
  3. upon receipt of the application files, the department will evaluate and process each application based on the information and documents that have been provided.
  4. Applicants will be shortlisted and notified by the department either via phone or mail, or post and required to Sit for a theory and practical examination as scheduled by the department.
  5. Having successfully passed the theory and practical examination, the application is approved and you will be notified when the license is ready for collection by phone or mail.
  6. Proceed to the Department of Wildlife and National Parks, registration and license office and present your identification document to be validated by the licensing office; pay the prescribed fee, as mentioned under the “FEE” section of this page.
  7. Have your photo taken, after the photo is taken, sign on the signature pad/book and collect your printed professional Travel Agent License or Permit/card at the dispatch office against your identification document.

EligibilityEdit

Applicants should meet the following eligibility criteria's to be able to apply;
Citizens

  • 18 years of age and above
  • Holder of Botswana General Certificate of Secondary Education (BGCSE) or Cambridge Overseas Certificate (COSC)
  • With one (1) year of related field experience
  • Valid driver’s license


Non-Citizens

  • 21 years of age and above
  • Holder of a minimum of secondary school education or equivalent to Cambridge Overseas Certificate (COSC)
  • Valid Driver’s license



FeesEdit

The following fee charges are applicable;
Citizens

  • Assistant Guide: BWP 100.00
  • Professional Guide: BWP 200.00


Non-Citizens

  • Professional Guide BWP 1500.00



ValidityEdit

  • The validity of license/permit/card is one year from the date of issue and its renewable thereafter unless suspended or revoked by the Department of Wildlife and National Parks.
